I am sure that could be done too.
Main problem is that it's take way more skills. The boards are smaller, and there isn't many pieces avaible yet and you would end up with the same cie pieces (90%) just like if you bought it directly from that cie.

But the main problem, is the case. If you watch the way laptops are built, all the pieces are different, the dvd-cd-rom drivers, hard-disk, cpu etc... are not always at the same place, so not all the pieces fits anywhere. And on a laptop, it's essentially only a big motherboard that have the graphic, sound, network etc... all together. So you would only be choosing your motherboard, your driver and your hard-disk, and to choose your keyboard and lcd screen with your case.

So in the end, would you really save, would all the troubles makes something bigger ? Not for now, may be in the futur. But there is no demands for it so no cie or shops are offering it. Most people who buy a laptop, use it for work or study, so you need something to use it fast without assle cause you don,t have time to bug on it. (time is money)
