I'm just using the damn thing in user mode - you know - googling stuff, checking email... I'm using IE10, and it's worse than 8 or 9. I tried 11, but it choked on the corporate email server. If you version count is going up, bugs should be going away. Right now, I have code puke all over my screen.
Sending from Chrome using an IE compatible component.... go figure.
I think what pisses me off the most is that it's just a browser. What the hell is crashing it so much? Do you people not test?

I don't know what to tell you. I use IE and I don't experience crashes. That is the case on three separate computers.

I was thinking about what is the common denominator with my experience. This is only anecdotal, but I don't install any type of Java runtime on my computer.

I think that may be part of it. I tend to frequent a limited set of sites - some of which have advertisements. These advert links are like black holes - you need know what's going to pop up in them. So, might be some links driving IE bonkers.
Odd, I just pulled up this topic - IE has placed the bottom ad banner directly over the controls to reply to this...

It's worth experimenting. I use a couple of do not track lists including EasyPrivacy and Stop Google Tracking. It only eliminates the ads that try to track. I'd say it gets rid of about 50% of the ads which is fine, because I'm not trying to get rid of ads. I'm just stopping the ones that are doing things they shouldn't.
Like you I have a limited set of sites. I use IE for browsing them. When I have to go to unknowns or questionable sites I use Aviator. InPrivate browsing is good, but I like the visibility that Aviator provides. It does a better job of blocking things too.

I'm with tgrt on this, IE is fairly stable, it's the plugins that generally mess things up.
And honestly, if a site needs java, they don't need my business.

I concur. But we all know that many of these ads lead to other ads and on and on. The only issue I have is that IE still *feels* single threaded. If there is a problem in one tab, it hangs the others.
I'll have to look into aviator and checking my plugins. I'm usually death on plugins.

We tell IE using customers who don't know better that we put the FireFox browser on their computer as we hand back their PC to them, "Friends don't let friends use IE". To wit they generally will ask "What's a browser?" ............

I actually prefer IE11 to Chrome, FF, and previous versions of IE. From the development side, supporting the bastard through the rapid-fire releases since 7 has been a major headache.  At least 70% of my clients still use IE in one flavor or another as their default browser.
I wonder if it might not be a case of outdated code for some websites causing them to hang? One thing I am seeing more and more of is the ads, images, and videos that take so long to load...in any browser.

Perhaps it is you that is "one off" and everyone else is in-tune with reality.
I recommend playing a game of tetris [^]and if you get above level level 7 you are sane and every one else is off their nut(a sanity check if you will).
