If you use msxml, this will be automatically handled when you write the xml file somewhere (stream, memory, disk). (" are replaced with ", < are replaced with <, and & replaced with & ).

Hi all,
I have several *.mak files that I have modified to fix various issues in my builds. I need to be able to import these makefile back into the projects from which they came from. I cannot find a way to do this. Is this possible? Or do I have to physically add in the changes to the project file piece by piece? I thought there would be a quick and dirty way to import the makefile back in Visual Studio. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

. MFC MDI project. I have a splashscreen class which instantiates an object in the initInstance in the app class. When this function goes out of scope, the splash screen is supposed to vanish since it was a local object. Does so fine on Win2K. On win98 however, it stays there even after the UI has come up! How dO I get rid of it? Any ideas why this is happening?

Can't you just put a close member into your splash class, and call it manually, rather than just closing in the splash's destructor and hoping the object gets deleted? (Less neat, I know, but at least that way you know exactly what's going to happen)

Okay. This might sound dumb. I didnt write the class.It has two things in it: create and onPaint, plus the constructor and destructor. What would I put in my Close() function? I dont think we can call the destructor right? Again, sorry if its an obvious question.....

Ahh, so I guess you've currently got something like
MyClass::MyFunction()
{
CSplashScreen Splash;
..do your startup processing here..
}
The Splash object should automatically get deleted at the end of the function, when it goes out of scope, but for some reason it isn't.
Instead, try changing it to:
MyClass::MyFunction()
{
CSplashScreen* pSplash;
pSplash = new CSplashScreen;
..do your startup processing here..
delete pSplash;
}
(I.e. you now have full control over the creation and destruction of the splash screen object, which should force it to close when you want it to)

Most excellent! I truly thank you for the idea - I was getting bogged d own in what to write in a Close() function. I have to remember this idea for future use too....the power of new and delete

I havent yet ever called a C dll from within my MFC program. What is the procedure for this? Where can I find this information? The C dll might be MFC too, or maybe just plain C++.

The easier ones (and it's most of them) will come with a .H and a .LIB.
So, you just #include the proper .H and #pragma comment(lib, "blablabla.lib") the supplied .lib
Others don't and you'll have to resort to the LoadLibrary() API call.

Usually the files will all be named the same, so if you've got SomeRandomLibrary.dll you should also get a SomeRandomLibrary.h and a SomeRandomLibrary.lib

Ah! Thank you. So if you are given the .h and .lib for a dll, you just include those appropriately, but if its just the dll thats available, then you have to do loadLibrary.....

I'm totally illiterate about stock jargon, but I'll check it out on my home pc this weekend. I take it this wasnt part of the deal you're working on? How is that coming along? I got the help doc HTML book. At first glance Idont seee a chapter where they actually link up the help system to a real app. That makes me nervous, so I will be bugging you when I get to that part (it will be among the first things I try). My app gets reviewed again on Friday. My new 2.8 is on the way. My goofy 40Gig machine told me yesterday I had 10M of free space left so I am now burning zillions of CDs. The new one has a DVD burner.
I used a nifty sort list control I found on CP in my project. Day before I found a disastrous bug, but it turned out to be an indexing problem. I was so upset when I found it that I got paralysed literally. I had no clue where to look. Ugh! Thank goodness thats resolved. Just a matter of time til I stumble upon the next bug.... or shall I say

No this is just part of my freeware library. On the "real" work front, I joined a startup and have postponed sleep for the next 2 years. I'll catch up later.

Hi,
i have created my own list ctrl that inherites from CListCtrl and has the property ownder draw fixed.
I want to force it to show vertical scroll bar.
i wrote the following code:
m_lc.ModifyStyle(0,WS_VSCROLL);
m_lc.SetScrollRange(SB_VERT,0,100);
m_lc.SetScrollPos(SB_VERT,0);
m_lc.ShowScrollBar(SB_VERT);
if i hook with spy++ to the list ctrl , i can see that the style was changed and now has WS_VSCROLL, but i don't see the vertical scroll bar. it only appears when many items has been inserted to the list....
can any1 help?

I always pull the network cable out, and say no when it asks if I want it to look for Source safe in future. No doubt every other reply you get will provide a more elegant solution, it could hardly be less.

- Remove all .scc files. (mssccprj.scc + vssver.sc in each folder)
- Edit the .dsw/.dsp files
in the .dsw files, remove the source control sections
(compare with a non-connected VSS .dsw file)
for instance, this :

becomes this :

in the .dsp diles, make sure of the following assignments :
