Hello,
There are times that my application exits by itself (without any windows dialog prompting a microsoft error). This does not always happen even when doing the exact same thing.
At first I'm thinking it could be a memory leak, but at times even just right after booting the pc and running the application, the error would occur.
I'm at a loss on identifying the cause. Help?

I'd like to store global application settings (for machine, not for the user). My first tought was to use IsolatedStorage with following parameters:

IsolatedStorageFile.GetStore<br />
(IsolatedStorageScope.Machine | IsolatedStorageScope.Domain | IsolatedStorageScope.Application, null, null);<br />
But
1. I can't get proper application identity to work. So how can I assure, that it will be shared between different application versions?
2. I have changed Application to Assembly for test purposes, but configuration wasn't shared between users 
How do you store sensitive infos for the application?
Is the registry the only place to share this data?

I typically use Application.CommonAppDataPath to store the global configuration files.

Hi,
I've found a nasty bug concerning .NET interop on Win64 : my .NET code uses SSPI function
InitializeSecurityContext and works fine on Win32, being built by Visual Studio 7.1 or visual Studio 8.0
But when I build it on a 64-bit machine with VS8.0 (since VS7.1 cannot be installed on x64),
InitializeSecurityContext refuses to work properly returning an error 'The principal name is incorrect'
Have you got any idea ?

How can we combine a transparent GIF image with a JPG file and save the resulting image in disc.
I want the GIF to act as a frame that we can see the JPG image through it . Help me please.

Hi There,
Is there a way in which Sqlserver can notify the dotnet application when a new column is added . i believe we can not use Query notifiaction here(correct me if i am wrong) .i am using sqlserver 2005 and dotnet 2.0 .
if anybody have an idea of how to do this or know any link in this regard,please share with me.

I've never done anything like that (never had a reason to look for column adds/deletes,) but I guess you could do something using triggers and SQL Server Notification Services.
Sorry, I don't have any examples...

I think you should follow the same way as that of Cache Invalidation ... This will combination of notification and querying the table

Hello,
I am working on changing our application to have multiple users access the application at the same time. Here's my problem:
Our application connects to a web service and also generates a log file to keep track of exceptions. The path of the web service and the path of the log file is specified in the application's .config file. This file is named <application-assembly-name>.exe.config.
I am assuming that the application automatically detects if there is a .config file in the said filename format. Is it possible for the application to look for the .exe path elsewhere? Each user needs to have their own .config file and .log file. Currently our log file is also generated in the same directory as specified in the .config file.
We would like to move all of these into the <approot>\user-data\<windows-username>\... directory.
Please help.

If you are using .NET 2.0, you can use the settings management features of VS2005 and change the scope of the appropriate config items from "application" to "user" and let .NET manage things for you. By default the user config files go into isolated storage for each user. I believe you can change this, but I don't remember how off-hand.

Hello Scott,
I tried looking at your suggestion but there are some configurations that I'm not seeing in the Settings Windows Forms so this won't work.
What I'm doing now is to try and load user-specific .config files using the ConfigurationManager.OpenMappedExeConfiguration(...) method. However even after the config file is opened, it is not being set into the application's settings. Do you know how to do this?

It won't get "mapped" in the way you are thinking. The code I have used in the past is:
Configuration serviceConfig = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(configFilePath);
ConnectionStringSettings engineConnectionStringSettings = serviceConfig.ConnectionStrings.ConnectionStrings["engineConnectionString"];
The call to ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration returns a Configuration object that you then need to use instead.

Hi, there is no bug here. It is a result of rounding (and the implicit conversion rules).
Do the same code with double, and try to explain !

it is not a bug you are casting the result set to in so you are getting the results in Int which is close round of result

Hi,
I want to know what is the ideal way to change from one language to another in a windows application (eg. From English to Chinese). I know one way is to use the resource folder and keep all the english strings there and then replace each string with the new language. This process can get tedious and Im wondering if there is a better way. Thanks for any ideas!

This is pretty much the only way to do it. The translated strings need to be stored somewhere so the application can retrieve them. Setting the Localizable property to true on the form and using language specific resource files (which will automatically generate the necessary sattelite assemblies) is the best approach.
