If you are using .NET 2.0, you can use the settings management features of VS2005 and change the scope of the appropriate config items from "application" to "user" and let .NET manage things for you. By default the user config files go into isolated storage for each user. I believe you can change this, but I don't remember how off-hand.

Hello Scott,
I tried looking at your suggestion but there are some configurations that I'm not seeing in the Settings Windows Forms so this won't work.
What I'm doing now is to try and load user-specific .config files using the ConfigurationManager.OpenMappedExeConfiguration(...) method. However even after the config file is opened, it is not being set into the application's settings. Do you know how to do this?

It won't get "mapped" in the way you are thinking. The code I have used in the past is:
Configuration serviceConfig = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(configFilePath);
ConnectionStringSettings engineConnectionStringSettings = serviceConfig.ConnectionStrings.ConnectionStrings["engineConnectionString"];
The call to ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration returns a Configuration object that you then need to use instead.

Hi, there is no bug here. It is a result of rounding (and the implicit conversion rules).
Do the same code with double, and try to explain !

it is not a bug you are casting the result set to in so you are getting the results in Int which is close round of result

Hi,
I want to know what is the ideal way to change from one language to another in a windows application (eg. From English to Chinese). I know one way is to use the resource folder and keep all the english strings there and then replace each string with the new language. This process can get tedious and Im wondering if there is a better way. Thanks for any ideas!

This is pretty much the only way to do it. The translated strings need to be stored somewhere so the application can retrieve them. Setting the Localizable property to true on the form and using language specific resource files (which will automatically generate the necessary sattelite assemblies) is the best approach.

There isn't one. It is a new feature in Visual Studio 2005

there is a tool named Visual UML which takes the project/ solution as input and develops class diagram for you.
You can configure it accordingly to give you required information.

If I am not wrong, you can make a reverse engineering using MS Visio...If you have VS 2003, you probably have MS Visio 2003 for Enterprise Architect...so, enjoy it!!!

In our new application which we are developing with .NET 3.0 framework, I need to develop a dockable toolbar. Thats means a toolbar like a MS office which user should be able to move from one place to another in execution time. It is being called as dockable toolbar in floating state. Can any one help me to get this done. Its urgent !!!

i'm planning to make a .net roadmap for my new comming employees.
i know it's too broad to start and this is why i need help.
i wanna make a roadmap that can be used for people are frosh in this industry.
i havn't started yet, but probably it will have to contain what courses to take, what catagories should be educated, what concept to understand,,,etc.
does any one has any kind of resources, documents, or references??

Road Map, I would suggest if you can come out with a proper training followed by good demo project. When you plan for training think about all the possible feature that you can use it. Also if this is in line for some upcoming project then you should always keep those requirements in mind while deciding the scope of project.

I'm of the opinion that users should be able to TEMPORARILY have invalid data in a bound control. To enable this, I set Form.AutoValidate to EnableAllowFocusChange so they can leave a control even if there is invalid data. I bind these controls to an object that implements IDataErrorInfo & INotifyPropertyChanged, with property procedures like this:

Now let's say I enter an "a" into a textbox bound to this property, then I tab out of the textbox into another bound control, edit it, and then leave THAT control, too. This causes the controls to be refreshed with the value of the properties, which means that my invalid "a" gets changed to zero, the value of _x.
My question is: How can I set things up so the invalid "a" gets left in the control until the user decides to re-enter it and change the value?

I'm using VS 'Orcas' and .net 3.0 for this.
I'm using xml to make a small item list and I want to make the background of the program change depending on what item is selected.
I'm using a listbox that looks like this

I came up with two possible ways to do this. One is to have the background of the ListBox transparent and just change the main windows background.
Background="{Binding Source={StaticResource listoitems}, XPath=bgimage}"
But this does not work. When I compile to test the program, it tells me that the program is not responding. I assumed that I could use the background like I can assune XPath values to textboxs. Do I need to make the main window refer back to the xml fine even though I made the <window.resources><xmldataprovider ....=""> tags.
I also tried using the above background code for the ListBox and it compiled, but I didn't get any image changes, just white.
Oh another thing that might be important, the image files are .png files. I shouldn't be the problem though, bceause I've seen demo programs that use PNG files. Or maybe the background doesn't like having a PNG.
If anyone knows any alternative ways of doing this, I'm all ears, but I'd like to understand why this doesn't work, though the answer is probably just a "because it doesn't." Thanks for any help.

How to Add the value in a particualr column say 2 as Combobox in a VSFlexGrid 7.0. There is some problem show at the runtime suppose we take flex as object of AXVSflexGrid and put the value in flex.set_colcombolist(2,"A"),suppose, but runtime error comes at the Form1 of Public Class Form1, show(Object reference not set to an instance of an Object). if anyone hv project like this or what I hv 2 do. Pls help me as soon as possible.

Hi,
I don't whether this fourm is forum is correct to put this kind of questions.
I'm new to VS2005 and below are the points i'm stuck now:
1. Where are the dll made for web projects? previously in VS2003 there used to be bin folder to where we used to get "projectname".dll but now I'm not finding the same here.
2. I'm not able to find immediate window VS2005. In VS2003 it used to be at debug-->windows-->immediate window, Is location/name changed or we need to do something else.
