Hi
I use CreateProcess to run a program. I need to find the windows that the main thread of the process opens (using EnumThreadWindows and from the PROCESS_INFORMATION parameter which I send to the API).
Everything is fine, but I have to wait (using Sleep API) to give time to the process to make its windows before enumerating them.
This is for sure not a good way since different processes take different times to start up.
I want to see, if there is a way to wait until process initialization is finished? maybe some API in the same manner with WaitForSingleObject just to wait for the initialization of the process?
I am really stuck in this...

Just installed Customer Preview Beta 2.
When I want to start notepad or someting else via
the start/start search I get following errors:
-Unknow NT operating system code 6 detected
-Read config file failed
However, the program start just fine.
Someone an idea what this might be ?

That's why is called BETA!
There's no information on that error anywhere I can find. I've never run into the problem myself.

Configure your firewall, which ever one you're using, to block the inbound and outbound ports that your applications are using.

That depends entirely on the firewall you're using and where it's located. If it's installed on your machine, then you'd probably go into Control Panels to control it. if it's an external firewall, like in a router, there's usually a website in the router you can use to configure it. After that, look up what you have to do in the documentation of your firewall.

Have you done any exploring in it??
If the firewall is turned on, then the ports are blocked. you actually have to open ports in order to use them. On the Exceptions tab, this is done by either allowing all ports opened by an application (Add Program button) through, or by specifying specific ports (Add Port button).

Edit the Hosts file so that the URL to be blocked points at your local loopback. Most (if not all) Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware products monitor the hosts file and will warn of its change. Re-notify these products of the changes.
Windows firewall is better than nothing. There are plenty of Firewalls to choose from. For instance - Zone Alarm, and Tiny and so forth. Do a google search and compare them according to your needs.
As I referenced Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware products, if you don't use then WAKE-UP and get them. Firewall (just the one), Anti-Virus (just the one), and Anti-Spyware (not limited to one) are ALL essential elements in your quest to a safe and secure computer system.

Hello,
I have an urgent question:
My application is a MFC MDI ActiveXControl Container and it crashes when the count of the "User Objects" of my application has reached the count of exactly 10000.(can be observed in TaskManager at column "User Objects" - count increases while starting my application).
How can I increase this count of "User Objects"?
Has anybody experience with that problem?

AFAIK, there's no way to increase that limit. Instead, it sounds like you have some kind of leak in your code. I've nver seen a USER Object count that high in any application. The largest User Object counts I've seen belong to CAD and 3D modeling packages, like Maya, and they don't come anywhere near 10,000 objects...

I'm not sure that xp has limite the number of user to 10000 or not. But try to check the data type of the variable in your code and check the scope that it could handle the value.

Hi, disk quota feature is allow admin to apply the specific quota for each user, not for the group. But why when disk quota is enable, the local administrator group is set to have unlimit quota by default? why disk quota can apply on local admin group but could not apply for the other group?

I have two Windows 2003 enterprise servers. One is front-end DNS, front-end exchange, and IIS. The other is a DHCP, back-end DNS, back-end exchange and local resource share server.
My goal is to block certain sites to keep employee's children from coming to the office and killing bandwidth with P2P downloaders and blogging sites.
I wish to do all this using no 3rd party software. I did this at home using nothing more than DNS and IIS but with Windows 2003 they have hardened security and moved things around from when I did it on Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

If you know the names of the sites you want to block then you can do it with a simple hosts file. You can push a new hosts file to people at login time to maintain it.
If you want to block specific P2P apps then you can use a firewall rule to block the ports needed.
Th biggest thing here though is that you seem to have a BIG lack of physical security and policy. If you have to worry about what your employees kids do then you have a management issue. Put a hard policy in place that makes the employee accountable for what gets done on their PCs and I bet you fix the 'issue' real fast. No matter what the employees kids should not have free use of the work PCs.

Actually, management in my company couldn't be much better. I'm not taking offence although I need to explain my company. My company is a home building company. I encourage my employees to bring their kids to work as it promotes my company. My office is actually themed as a house to match the company.
With the websites, I just wish to block the ones that require high bandwidth. Picture sites, video sites, and one is example is myspace.com.
Above you said I have a lack of security and policy. Policy was referencing the employees bringing thier kids, which I have explained as allowed. Security scares me though, I worked for Microsoft for 10 years and have a deep seated understanding of computers. I was the Head of the Exchange Center of Excellence and even spoke to Bill Gates himself, only once sadly. But as far as I know the only security I lack is an ISA server, do you see something else?

Then again you can do this by simply administering a hosts file that routes these sights to 127.0.0.1 and your problem is gone.
With respect to your situation, I fully understand the way you are running the company (giving it a home type feeling) and I like that. No worries there.
My only concern is that just allowing the children at the work place does not mean that you have to allow them access to machines that are used for work. If you want something slightly more manageable then why not supply a set of PCs just for the kids when they are there and manage them more tightly.
ISA would be a good idea but I have not found a simple way to block access to specific sites without buying some kind of add-on product. I run ISA in my house (SBS2000 system) and this is what I do. Weekly I run through the ISA web logs and take a look at the sites my kid if going to. I then decide what is OK and what is a no-no. I take the no-no sites and add then to a hosts file stored on the server. His log-in script is set to pull that file down when he logs on and form that point forward that site is blocked.

I forgot to mention that the computers the kids play on are thiers, or thier parents personal, self owned laptops. My problem isn't that the kids are online using the web, just certain web sites kill bandwidth, I have plenty it is just I want to keep it that way.
Also, alot of it is just I want to learn how...

Since those laptops don't belong to you, its not a good idea to modify them. You're only other (and best) option is a firewall, and block those sites and ports.
