I was in a hurry and mistyped that. I meant "can".
Having been born and raised in Europe with family in the US, I'm always sensitive to currency conversion issues. In fact, when I worked for Holiday On Ice, I helped to design and implement a specific forumula to "smooth" out the flucuations in currency so that our skaters (who were from all around the world) could depend on a consistent income without worrying about these flucuations.

Buying books online is pretty much out for most Asian countries due to the high shipping costs(Around 7USD + 5USD per item). That's like paying 30% more for the book, so I just usually do my shooping offline.

Yeah. I know. I mistyped. I meant "I *can* understand that.".
Luckily I've never lived anywhere where the rate and cost-of-living (COL) was that differnent from any other country with which I had financial ties. PR doesn't count because they use USD, but when I lived in Amsterdam the rate was 2.5, which turned my paltry (by US standards) 20k USD salary into 50k G. In the mid-80's, the COL for Amsterdam and making 50k G meant I could go a couple of months without even cashing my cheque and be ok.

Don't know about India, but I've seen the book in bookstores here, And I would think India gets tech books faster than Malaysia.

However, then the person would have no excuse. When you click "new post" and get this entire page dedicated to stating "Don't post programming questions in the Lounge", you can't state that you didn't see it.
Besides, warnings are like locks on your front door. They're there to keep the honest people out. The real criminals are doing to do whatever it takes to get what they want - rules be damned.
As I said, this won't work for everyone, but it would be a two line code change and dramatically cut down on the number of posts that so many people deem undesirable in the Lounge.

Agreed. Hope your works. But it might end up being one more small lock on the door.
Currently, Lounge is the only forum where user needs to be signed in to make posts. This check atleast eliminates annonymous posts.
Never comment ur code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand !!!

But sometimes you do have double standards,
You dont like programming questions in the lounge, but you personally answer questions that could go into sys-admin forum, I know its "not" a programming question but then it does not belong to lounge, just like programming question do not belong to the lounge.

Hello,
yesterday I've just posted a programming question in the Lounge  .
And I'd like to give you my opinion, maybe can be useful, who knows!
The reason why I posted my message in the Lounge is that I found in the main page of the web site the frame containing some Lounge messages and I said to myself: "Ahh, that's what I'm looking for, let's go"...
From my point of view, you'll have much less message if you, for example, put at the place of the Lounge frame a Message board frame. The probability that a new comer wants to ask a programming question is much more higher then someone who wants to put a new topic in the Lounge.

For programming help please try the Forums (link)." directly above the text field where you enter the message subject. I'm just curious as to whether you missed this, read it but ignored it, or read it and felt it wasn't clear enough so decided to seek help in the lounge regardless.

I had a look into the Lounge and I finally saw the message. Since when the message is there??? Shame on me...
I really missed it... I even didn't look at the red text!
I'm the kind of people not used to read, but to try . I guess its against guys like me you're fighting.

See, this is basic usability here. Be it a red warning or a bigger page, users never read the documentation!
So I propose the following. I'll admit, it uses a non-standard HTML tag, but most browsers support it these days. It is the "shock" tag. If a post receives 5 or more "1" votes, and is in the Lounge, the user should receive this HTML page upon next visit:
<shock voltage="medium"> Please do NOT post programming questions in the lounge!</shock>

There is no reason why being able to see who voted is forbidden.
It would stop a lot of the spurious voting.

I've often thought this would be a good idea... but then I remember that there are a lot of petty minded people here who would use this information to make the site a less nice place to visit.
Personally, I'd do away with the voting fullstop, especially in the soapbox... people who get voted low just keep posting the same kind of crap so it obviously doesn't discourage them.
In the programming forums, you rarely see any votes for answers - so you never know whether an answer to a question is useful or a crock of sh*t.
Personally, I'd prefer to be able to block certain users messages from appearing, that way I can ignore the people who post stuff I don't enjoy reading.
