Hi,
whenever i connect my laptop to ac power, it says, windows color scheme changed to basic and v.v. as windows color scheme changed.
How do i get over it to have one constant setting all the time.
I have checked everything from in dell power settings. It looks some configuration issue with respect to windows. please help.

We have several remote, unmanned terminals where I require a VNC server, as using Remote Desktop prevents others using the terminals. Often the connection to one of these is extremely slow, and manually using Remote Desktop to perform the VNC installation is painstaking. What I would like to do is build a package that I could copy onto the remote terminal using Remote Desktop, and then have the package executed to install and configure VNC when the terminal restarts, as they all automatically restart nightly. The terminals are all running Windows XP. Also, out of the many VNC variants out there, which would suit this application?

i use tightvnc because of how easy it is to use and set up... as for an installation package, they are open source so you can modify the installation if you'd like. you should be able to set up a start-up routine using the windows scheduler.

Hi, I read about windows 7 in wikipedia and found that windows 7 will support color depth to 48bit. So is it possible for me to check my laptop which run windows 7 whether its support color depth to 48bits?
currently i am using epson scanner v330 and this scanner support 48bit for internal and external.

I developed a bootloader. I want to change interrupt 0x13 of BIOS in this bootloader. I can call old subroutine of 0x13 successfully but I don't know how change readed data.

Here is the set-up:
1) My remote PC runs XP and supports many monitors (6 in total with different sizes), e.g., for instrumental displays.
2) My laptop connects to the PC via a remote desktop connection (RDP) to perform some testing.
3) When the connection established, all the displays that originally span on all the monitors suddenly overlap with each other on the single laptop screen. Actually, this re-organizing behavior is anticipated and is sort of "normal".
Is it possible to only display the primary monitor of the PC on the laptop when connected?
I've tried /span switch, which does not seem to be what I want.

The version of RDP built into Windows XP doesn't have the same level of multi-monitor support as the newer versions built into Windows 7 (possibly vista - I've never tested this, though). Unfortunately, only spanning is possible when you are connecting to a machine running XP.

If you can't get it working you can always use third-party solutions like Teamviewer, that handles that without problem.

Quick background: I'm a former C++/STL/MFC programmer, now working as a veterinary practice manager. My 10+ daily hours of hardcore programming have been replaced by a once-a-month opportunity to debug an Excel macro, or write some VBScript.
Anyway - we are using Windows Terminal Services in the clinic. We'd like to be able to send a message to our reception terminals when someone is ready to go home. We've been using Net Send, but security issues asides, the message often goes to the wrong person.
Msg seems to work better, however rather than sending the message to a person (specific user account), I'd like it to go to specific terminals (which could be in use by anyone.) Msg allows me to send to a session by name or ID - but how to determine the session info for a specific terminal? I have been looking at WMI but cannot find any class or set of classes that ties all this together.
help a brutha out?

Hello people,
When some read only files are moved from a read only folder to another folder that is not read only, they must automajically become writable.Any tip/trick available for this?
I have many many files that I have to selectively move and change, in sequence, and I don't think using a batch file to achieve what I want every time is going to be any helpful. Or is that my only choice?

First of all I welcome myself to this forum for visiting it for the first time. 
And before I answer this question, let me tell you how I got here. I saw this post in Lounge and thought of replying but then got into some work. Now when I was searching for it I couldn't find it and I had to go through your profile to arrive here.
Okay, lets get to the question now.
I am no expert in OS. But a simple solution would be to apply a required attribute to the root folder. When you click apply, select the option - 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolder and file' and select Ok.
But I think you do not want to mess with the attributes of already existing sub-folders and files. So here a programming solution that comes to my mind. Write a program which sets the attribute of recently modified files to a desired value.
You can easily do that in C#. The System.IO[^] namespace contains a lot of classes like Directory, DirectoryInfo, File, FileInfo which helps you do these things.
This example shows how to set an attribute to a file: File Attributes [C#][^]
IIRC, you are a C++ guy. You may search Google for C++ solution if you are not comfortable programming C#.
I hope the post at least gives you an idea on how it can be done. All the best!

I too thought about a programmatical solution, but in C++ (you recalled it correctly). I need to to this quite a lot these days (files include documents, code etc) so I was thinking of an elaborate method where some kind of shell hook is installed that does these kinds of stuff. If time permits, I might give it a shot, but before that wanted to see if any poweruser knew any trick.

AFAIK you have to take care of the read-only attribute explicitly, if you want to make sure it gets cleared.
you didn't tell us *how* you command the file copy.
if by batch file, add an ATTRIB command.
if by .NET code, add a File.Attribute=... statement.
if interactively (Windows Explorer), right click for File Properties.

Thats what I was afraid of. Wouldn't it have been cool for the OS to have given such a option that I need.

Aah, these days "batch" files don't just mean good old .bat files, do they? I was talking about the DOS batch file with ATTRIB.
