Hello people,
When some read only files are moved from a read only folder to another folder that is not read only, they must automajically become writable.Any tip/trick available for this?
I have many many files that I have to selectively move and change, in sequence, and I don't think using a batch file to achieve what I want every time is going to be any helpful. Or is that my only choice?

First of all I welcome myself to this forum for visiting it for the first time. 
And before I answer this question, let me tell you how I got here. I saw this post in Lounge and thought of replying but then got into some work. Now when I was searching for it I couldn't find it and I had to go through your profile to arrive here.
Okay, lets get to the question now.
I am no expert in OS. But a simple solution would be to apply a required attribute to the root folder. When you click apply, select the option - 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolder and file' and select Ok.
But I think you do not want to mess with the attributes of already existing sub-folders and files. So here a programming solution that comes to my mind. Write a program which sets the attribute of recently modified files to a desired value.
You can easily do that in C#. The System.IO[^] namespace contains a lot of classes like Directory, DirectoryInfo, File, FileInfo which helps you do these things.
This example shows how to set an attribute to a file: File Attributes [C#][^]
IIRC, you are a C++ guy. You may search Google for C++ solution if you are not comfortable programming C#.

I too thought about a programmatical solution, but in C++ (you recalled it correctly). I need to to this quite a lot these days (files include documents, code etc) so I was thinking of an elaborate method where some kind of shell hook is installed that does these kinds of stuff. If time permits, I might give it a shot, but before that wanted to see if any poweruser knew any trick.

AFAIK you have to take care of the read-only attribute explicitly, if you want to make sure it gets cleared.
you didn't tell us *how* you command the file copy.
if by batch file, add an ATTRIB command.
if by .NET code, add a File.Attribute=... statement.
if interactively (Windows Explorer), right click for File Properties.

Thats what I was afraid of. Wouldn't it have been cool for the OS to have given such a option that I need.

Aah, these days "batch" files don't just mean good old .bat files, do they? I was talking about the DOS batch file with ATTRIB.

For exercise.. I am trying to create a secure VPN tunnel between this Cisco 1841 Router and a Sonicwall router. No in both routers it shows that the tunnel is active. The problem is I cannot ping / access any computers between the LANs. On the Sonicwall side I have a computer at 192.168.1.250. While on the Cisco side I have a computer at 192.168.11.55. So what am I missing? I started setting up this router two days ago for learning Cisco / routing. From tutorials I have followed, I have everythign setup correctly but traffic just isn't flowing!

Here is my scenario:
1) A login session running some interactive displays on Windows XP Pro.
2) A remote desktop connection connects to XP via RDP. It takes over the control. When the job done, it closes the connection.
3) When the connection closes, I want to restore the previous login session automatically.
How do I acheive step #3. I've tried TSCON command, but it gives some error. I tried using one account only or using two accounts.

You can login as console using the /console switch on older RDP or /admin on new RDP (vista, win7, 2008 , etc). Will connect you to same one each time

Hi all,
We have an office With windows Server 2008 having 7 Work stations(Computers). I need to add a new computer to the server . i have alredy created a new computer and user in the Active directory users and computers on the server but the problem i have is to connect that Work station(the new computer) to the server . Let me share few steps that i did
- i logged in as administrator of that computer. I right click MY COMPUTER-PROPERTIES-COMPUTER NAME-CHANGE then i wrote the name of the computer and the Domain name
-MY NETWORK PLACES-RIGHT CLICK LAN-PROPERTIES-TCP/IP-PROPERTIES then i wrote the prefered DNS SERVER ip address the same as the one from the server-OK
After trying to log in it didnt allow me for both administrator and any domain user
Any one with idea on this. i appreciate your support thanks a lot
