Why no VB.NET category? Perhaps a mixed C#/VB.NET category would be more suitable?

I assume you are talking about the site rather than this poll
I guess there hasn't been much (if any) VB.NET stuff submitted. If enough is submitted then I'm sure Chris will create a category for it.

There was some discussion on this a while ago and the consensus was that the majority felt strongly against it.

I am amazed to see that CP has at least 10% weekly increase in membership - that's percentage of the people claiming they are first time around and the polls are taken weekly. Is this probable?

I don't think so, there are nearly always a selection of people who will answer any survey incorrectly, for a variety of reasons.
Many Polls are skewed with either the first or last answers recieving more hits. (Sorry haven't got any references to show this)
First answers get more hits, because people want to select something and move on.
Last answers are selected because people read the list and can't be bothered decicding.
Wrong answers are selected by people for many obscure reasons as well.
To correct this I'm sure Chris would have put some simple practices in place, to weed out the erroneous votes.

Yeah, I'm not surprised by the poll. When I first bumped into the site it gave me so much useful stuff, and it continues to do so...
There's the eZine quality of there always being somthing new to read (actually, when I've read all the new stuff I get bored). There's the all your questions answered quality, and theres the community feeling. Its great!
Thanks loads you founding people - like Chris

If sonork counts then I think you need to add a new option for those of us that use it. Lately there have been some of us on sonork like all day

Sonork doesn't only not count, but you actually LOSE points for using Sonork at all, or any other IM crapware for that matter.
(I'm not trying to blast you, I just don't like IM programs)

Current Stats show a big hit on 1 - 5 hrs per week,
What are people doing and why ?
I'm only here for research of course.

I find I also am more and more here for the "community" as well.
My excuse, is that I work 99% remotely, I haven't seen an employer in almost 5yrs

For me, there is more of a shared interest. The people were I am currently contracting are a pretty poor bunch technically and experience wise. CodeProject helps me get thorough the day without killing somebody.

Yep, I'm surrounded by a bunch of retirees so CP is many many many times more interesting than what I have around me. And I'm the only real developer for miles too [I don't count QBasic]

Yeah. I was wondering too. 5 hrs per week is too low. I wonder what the hell they are doing that they cant manage a decent 20 hrs a week

OF course he can, but this way he gets another demographic - how often people who bother to *vote* come to the site....
Seriously, I doubt that is the point, the survey is a point of discussion for the week, not a data-mining exercise.

Perhaps a new poll.. how much of the time you spend on CodeProject is spent in the lounge/message boards, as opposed to reading or sumbitting code?
For me it depends on who you ask.. if my employer asks, 100% of my time is spent looking at the articles and code samples.

Good smart answer. Unfortunately for me once just as I was reading one of John's posts in the R&R my HR passed behind. I dunno what she saw, but somehow I feel she's been giving me queer looks after that.
