Interesting to know that being right handed and using left hand for mouse
|

I just found that was the most productive way to do it. It was so disruptive to just use the right hand.

Same here: Right handed, but using he mouse with the left hand for productivity reasons.
I have even managed to convince 5-6 other people of the benefits of this approach.

I am right handed, but I also taught myself to use a mouse with my left. I switched several years ago because it was more convenient for some games. I have since switched back over and started to use the mouse with the right again. Many of the newer games default the movement keys to WASD instead of the arrow keys. I have found this to be a good compromise because I preferred using my right hand for mousing for everything else besides games.

I too am right handed but a left handed mouse user with the buttons swapped so the right button is the primary click. Drives people nuts when they try to use my machine.
My dad is left handed and left mouse user but doesn't swap the buttons. Screws me up when I try to use his machine.

For some reason I didn't bother to swap the buttons round. Probably because I never even thought about it. It's been so long now.

I write left.. Most things I first picked up in a right-handed fashion I will continue to use right handed (mouse), though due to the layout of my desk I've switched to lefthanded mouse (I don't invert buttons though, I switch back to righthanded sometimes).
So I play darts.. that's left handed.. ditto for billiards.. However, bowling is right handed... and I usually win arm wrestles on my right as well... go figure!
When I'm wrenching, using power tools, etc, I'm pretty ambidextrous.. I'm just not ambidextrous in enough things to consider myself such.

Good heavens!! You must have a hell of a job making up your mind about anything.

It's pretty simple actually.. anything overhand is left, underhand is right
Don't know why I'm wired that way.. Man upstairs must have had a little much mead when he wired me

I was told I was left handed at school but the only thing I left handed is write, pretty much everything else is right handed, playing bass, eating...

My brother and I are both lefties. We do most 'large' actions like batting and punchin' suckas with the right. I know lots of lefties like that.

I'm right handed with writing and playing guitar but left handed with hockey sticks, golf clubs and baseball bats...

Only writing with right in my use. For that reason I use know also the mouse right.
So I am "reverse" sided to you.

I'm mostly right handed but do some things left handed. Like shooting a rifle, I kept getting told I need to put it on my right shoulder. Nope couldn't do that like you are supposed to do when right handed. I shoot fine left handed fine Lots of other little things I catch myself using my left hand for... But as far as writing and have the most strength I'm right handed.

Have you done the test for dominant eye? Bet your left eye is dominant. Hold up your hands making a circle and look through it with both eye open. Then close one eye and then the other. The view with one eye will be mostly just the same as when you were using both, that is your dominant eye.

Never really thought about that. Might right eye is my lazy eye. Left eye is 20/20, right is bad. So I use left eye for things like shooting and such.

Only the best of us overcome it.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

You remind me of an eye doctor I had as a kid. He told me left-handed myopic people were going to take over the world. The fact that we were both left-handed and myopic may have had something to do with it.

I've been led to understand that we're actually born left handed. It's only because we're told in school (or by parents) to write with our right hands, that most people turn out right-handed.
And frankly, when it comes to hand-writing (at least in the US and other places with an LTR reading order language,) it makes sense to use one's right hand. You don't smudge your writing that way.
I'm sure in parts of the world with RTL reading order (Japan, for example) probably have more left-handed people than right.

Much more common than ambidextrous. that's for sure.

...to be ambidextrous!
Actually I am ambidextrous. When I was a kid my elder brother bet me I couldn't write my name using my left hand (I was definitely right-handed back then), so I practiced writing with my left hand until I could use both hands to write with (I tried simultaneous writing with both hands but could only do it if writing the same text - handy for doing lines at school).
Since then I have had to do various things using either hand, tech support for a while using a left-handed person's mouse on their machine, etc. and found no problem.
Learning to drive on the wrong side of the road when I moved to the US (the right side instead the of the correct, left side as a civilized country should). Using the wrong hand for gear changing caused bashed knuckles for a while until I got used to it.

Handling a mouse is one thing, but writing?
How long did you practice? Roughly?

I was about seven years old and practiced an hour each day for maybe two weeks. Cursive back then, block capitals these days after many, many years of writing FORTRAN on coding sheets! I have Carpal Tunnel on my right hand (most common mouse usage, probably) so when I write at all (hardly ever these days), I use my left hand mostly.
