I am going to do a signal processing job to a sampled speech signal.
I have already done the sampling to a speech signal and got the sampled 60001 values.
The next step I am going to do is to normalise the sampled values,i.e.
set the maximum value to +1 and the minimum value to -1. By using the
function "wavread", the read in data has been put in the range of
[-1,+1]. According to what I have found, the maximum value of the
sampled 60001 values is 0.9920, while the minimum value is -1. So, my
algorithm is to divide all the +ve values with 0.9920. Is it correct?
I tried the following program:
m = max(sv); % sv is the array containing the sampled 60001 values
for k = 1:60001 % sv2 is another array I am going to store the
if sv(k)>0 % normalised values.
sv2(k) = sv(k)/m % if the element is +ve, divide it with m.
else
sv2(k) = sv(k) % if the element is 0 or +ve, keep it.
end
end
When running the above, I found that it ran very slowly and I can see
the data rolling on the screen of Command Window. Can anyone give me
some advice on how to do the loop with C/C++ but using the compiler of MATLAB?

Have you ever thought about sending a link to the news letter instead of the full letter? It might save some server time, and save some of my e-mail box space . Maybe it could be done as an option?

Would it be possible to start a new section to discuss and instruct on scripting? I'm currently doing quite a bit of ADSI scripting in VBScript and am converting some of it into ASP.Net. I know a lot of things can be done using the LDAP interface as well. I guess I'm looking for an area that discusses the strengths and weaknesses of both. When to use one vs. the other.

Any chance someone is going to address the chronic message board slowness problems before the next millenium?
Seriously, is anyone going to fix this problem so we don't get timeouts posting messages, don't have to wait for a minute at times for forums to load (dynamic view have never used any other)?
It's been an ongoing problem now for at least a full year if not longer and there really never seems to be anyone here saying "We know what the problem is and were going to fix it".
It can be super fast at times so there is abviously hope, on the other hand, maybe it's fastest when the greatest number of people all give up in frustration at the same moment.;)

Yes John, we will.
Our current TODO list:
1. new web servers to fix web server load problems
2. new hosting to fix network bottlenecks
3. new SQL clustering to fix DB load problems
4. more hands on deck to help manage new hardware and rewrite the site
Underlying all this:
5. Balancing the budget (both time and money) to get all this done.
We have just (not 10 mins ago) setup the first of our replacement webservers. We signed a deal with a new host a few weeks back and once we have the hardware setup and tested (one more week) we'll move over there. That's 1 and 2 fixed. SQL clustering has been a bugbear and we've decided to wait until 4 is done so we can use an application level solution. We have gladly welcomed the addition of Marcie Robillard, aka Datagrid Girl who, along with Nish and Smitha, will be helping me complete the ASP.NET rewrite. That's essentially 4, and then 3 done.
Please be very kind to Patricia and Bianca who are working hard to ensure 5 will be manageable.

Any chance the process of rewriting the ASP site into ASP.NET will get documented in a series of articles. I certainly think there will be educational value for all of us in reading about the successes and pitfalls of such a large undertaking.

I know this has been brought up before but here is some more ammo for the case.
We should be able to change our rating on articles. Not vote again or remove our vote, but change a 2 to 4 or a 5 to a 1 etc.
Initially I voted this article a 2 because it was really just some source code and a link, no real article too it. I then left a message to the author explaining my low vote. About an hour later he came back and updated his article adding in a lot more detail. Now I would say it is worth a 4, not a 2. But I cannot change it.

It seems Paul and I share very similar views here; I just posted this in the Lounge (and then realised I was in the wrong forum  ):
I know much has been said about the Article Rating system and I don't really want to restart the debate about whether it's a good idea or not. However, I do have one suggestion.
Recent changes such as 'Purgatory' encourage community members to give low ratings for 'bad' articles, but, as is the case with this article[^] it improved after feedback. However, having voted already I am now unable to amend my vote to aid in it's recovery.
I don't think being able to vote multiple times is a good idea, for obvious reasons, but it would be nive if I could amend my vote at a later date if improvements have been made.

Since the article has changed, the vote count could be reset to zero. Unfortunately this opens up the possibilty of people updating an article just to get the rating reset to zero. None the less, I think it is an editorial decision to make when an article is updated that the article's rating should be reset.

I have not got any spam since i changed my domain name from .nu to .se since june last year. I have been very restricted to add myself to new sites so i'm quite sure when the spam appears.
It was when i registered here. Does there is any side here that can be public showing everyones email?

Email addresses are never displayed in web-pages at CodeProject, so it is unlikely that the address has been farmed by a spam-bot.
CP have never in their history sent unsolicited mail and I don't believe they will have started now.
The only unsecure part of CP is when you reply to a post. Your email address is shown in the reply notification that gets sent.

Strange. I've been signed up on CP for over a year, and I'm yet to get any spam at all on this address. Most of us would beat Chris (the webmaster) with a rubber hose had he sold our addresses to spammers

I don't think so either and it must have been a coincidence, but it is strange - don't you agree?. Myself is running a big community in Sweden and have also created a numerous number of sites so i know we try our hardest not to make that kind of misstakes - i'd just have to ask.
I don't blame anyone, i was just curius to to hear if, just if there was by any chanse the source was from here.
