There is an easy way. I am on a domain so I can't give you the exact wording, but under User Accounts there should be something about changing the way users log on and off. Its the same place you enable/disable fast user switching.

Thanks Matt, that's the same one I'm talking about when I see the Use the Welcome screen option. The couple of times I have gotten to setup on a computer on a domain it was probabaly one that had a global policy in effect that required the use of Ctrl+Alt+Del. Which is why I never saw the option and didn't know where to find it. From what I have seen so far Sebastian's way seems to be the only one.

Actually a domain computer can't use the welcome screen by adding it to a domain it is automatically turned off.

Can't do it...you need to be part of a domain to get the Ctrl+Alt+Del window to appear.

I installed .net on Windows 2000 Server. While Installing i checked that all the options are ticked. but still I am getting this error :
Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. Server side-error occurred on sending debug HTTP request.
Make sure the server is operating correctly. Verify there are no syntax errors in web.config by doing a Debug.Start Without Debugging. You may also want to refer to the ASP.NET and ATL Server debugging topic in the online documentaion.
Would you like to disable future attempts to debug ASP.NET pages for this project?
Can anyone help me out.

Posting the same question three times will not get you any faster response, nor win any friends here. Don't do it.
Debugging has to be specifically enabled in IIS5.0 - it isn't set up to allow it by default. In IIS Manager (Administrative tools) select the website you want to debug, right-click, and open the Properties dialog. Select the Home Directory tab, then the Configuration button near the bottom. Select the checkbox to enable Server-side script debugging and/or client-side script debugging. This is the basic debugging setting for ASP, and as far as I know, it also affects ASP.Net projects. Before you finish the project, remove the checkmarks, as debugging mode forces IIS to run in single-threaded mode, and will badly affect performance on a production site.

but i have tried all settings possible in IIS, last thing possible was to format the PC and install new instance of OS and .NET did that also. but its not working.
You are right by the way that posting the same question 3 times wont fetch me faster response or friends, sorry for that but i am stuck at this place since around a week now and am not able to find way out. sorry again.
As far as ur resoponse is concerned i did that when got that problem first time only, but its still giving me same error.

I don't know that I can help you... I installed the .Net Framework 1.1 on my Win2K Server and never encountered this error. You might find some better sources in the ASP.Net Forum; try searching it for some clues that resemble what you're seeing. Good luck - I know how frustrating it can be to hit a wall with this stuff.

My brother and I were trying to share one of my WinXP folders over the internet. Can it be done? I have it set up as a shared folder. How does he access it from his PC, to download my files and etc. Is there a direct way, or do we need an FTP client?

Interesting thought... I've never tried it. At a minimum you'd have to know each other's IP address, and he would need an account on your computer. You could stick the folder in IIS and let him access it that way, but making the actual connection is something I haven't tried in XP. A few years ago I had no trouble connecting to and using the server at work from home, but then I had a valid logon, and I don't recall the details of how I did it. Open up My Network Places, click the Add wizard and see what happens. Perhaps a combination of IP address and share name will be enough to make the link.

I've just received a message telling me that a computer at 10.2.x.x is trying to contact the SNMP Server here, and I can't imagine why. That's not even supposed to be a routable IP address, so it must be on the local net here in town. What in the world does the SNMP Server do that might interest a hacker?
Is there any good reason to run it at all? I've blocked it with a firewall and nothing has broken yet. I realize that it's used for managing remote computers, but I haven't found a lot of info about just what it does and how it works. What kind of risk does it present?

The plot thickens - the remote MAC address is the one on my ISP's gateway server, but the IP address associated with it is no longer correct. ARP reports the correct IP address for that MAC address, but the packets coming in are tagged with the 10.2.x.x IP. How entertaining!

SNMP is Simple Network Management Protocol. You use it to manage networks
I haven't used it, but many routers use it to allow configuring them remotely. You should activate only services you use, if you don't use it, remove it. You could try shutting it down and whatching if the network still works. If someone complains, it's your problem

The information about the commputer like sysadmin / location / performace data etc. might be interesting, depending on your config you can completly manage you computer with snmp eg. shutdown start stop services apply new firewall rules .....

if does not need this service deinstall it, if you have products like HP OpenView or IBM Tivoli you will need this

Does anyone here use any external utility to backup in linux? My boss wanted me to explore around with samba and linux to see how easy it would be to set up a file server with domain logons, and i've got that down pretty good.
However, i've been googling, and the best i can find is to either manually do it with a tar command every time i wanna do it, or use AMANDA.
I just want to backup user directories (everything in /home).
Whats the best way to do this?

i already did that, but my c++ knowledge of linux time isn't good enough. I'd have to make a program that checks the time every so often and runs the tar command if the time is correct. but i don't really want that, it seems it would be a resource hog.

No, what i meant is you can use a bash script running with cron.
Cron is a daemon that runs programs at specific times, depending on what you put in the conf file. Check the manpages, do a: "man cron" from the shell and you will learn how to use it. Then you only have to write a script, something like this (I don't remember the tar syntax):
#!/bin/sh
tar cvf backup.tar /home
Then you write it to a file, say backup.sh and perhaps chmod it to o+x so you can execute it from the shell.
It's been a long time since I don't use linux, so I almost forgot many commands.
