MFC isn't best suited for games. Games don't make the best use of the MFC capabilites. MFC is an overhead that most games don't require.
Most games have their own window handling framework, although I do know people who use WTL to handle the processing of Windows messages.
Personally I rolled my own mini-framework to use along side DirectX.
I used some of the techniques described in the Windows++[^] book for building the framework for handling message processing. I then used DirectX to handle the drawing.

I want to create ActiveX self,
but in CDialog where it defined, instead of them
(due to lack of memory happens if Cdialog creates ActiveX
- they do many uncontrolled loads with IPictureDisp interface )
I need to get position and tab-oreder information for
each control in CDialog resource.
Here is not shown position info, and enumeration:

I need to look up "real names" for GUID's (Interface name, CoClass name, TypeLib etc.)
I know that the info is available in the registry, and that VC6 debugger does it nicely.
is there anything I can reuse? Or do I have to venture on my own?

it's pretty easy, but don't know any API for that
you have to only open registry at the right place.
If you look to HKCR\CLSID\
you'll see a bunch of GUIDs in text form for objects, you have to open registry key
HKCR\CLSID\{GUID} and get the default value to retrieve the name of the object
for interfaces the same
HKCR\Interface\{IID}
suprisingly for Typelibs it's little different
HKCR\TypeLib\{LIBID}\1.0 (or another version number)
you can check it directly in regedit.

When you right click an exe file you get the company's name, I'm wondering how you create this information? I would assume there's a setting in VC++ and studio.NET that compiles this information into the file but I'm not sure where to find this setting.

In resources tab, click Insert > Version and fill out the version info for your app. That'll get compiled in the exe and Windows will be able to associate your exe file with a company etc. when viewing properties or in small text beneath the icon in explorer

take a look to your ResourceView in VC++.
You will find the resources of your project and also a version-resource (VS_VERSION_INFO). If not, add a version-info to your project.

There's nothing available, that's really working. Only thing which works for 100% is not to giving the CD away, sorry.
Problem is, that if the operating system can read it (as it must to access it) someone else can do it as well.
You can do some sort of protection to check if the right CD used, but if your software is good, then next day or after next day will be some cracks available to overcome that problem.
Only solution I found working is support. You'll support only registered and paying  customers, giving them a feeling that it's better to buy it than just copy it.

Check out www.securom.com, it'll give you a little while at least before the hackers get in. Doubt its free though. Personally I prefer silent copy protection methods, such as those in Championship Manager 4 and Unreal Tournament, where (in CM4) if a copied disk is inserted it allows you to play the game, but every game you play is fixed so you lose. This way will at least keep those people who buy one copy and share it amongst friends at bay from researching a hack because they aren't aware its the copy protection doing its job .

API no, library yes, _tcsstr, strstr.
The wildcard stuff is a different issue. One way to do this is with regexp, although something that handles only ? and * is simpler.

There are commercially available generic USB drivers that can adjust to virtually any protocol, and support all relevant OS versions.
I am not aware of a free / cheap solution, or one provided with the OS.

I have an STL list, and I want to move on it from back to front. I am trying to use the reverse_iterator, but I am getting a compilation error. Here is my code:

But he can dereference them and use operators on the referenced object.
Provided that the operators are defined for the object.
Was it that what he tried: *r+1 ?

His code is doing this:

Thanks for your reply. But why can't I add to the iterator? According to MSDN[^], the reverse iterator contains operator+. What I don't know is what this operator takes as input.
Anyway, I changed my code to this and it compiled:

ri2 != myList.rend(); ++ri )
