I am not continously happy, but neither am unhappy.

As a surfer friend of mine said: You can't always ride the crest, if you do you either hit the rocks or land on the sand. You have to know when to drop it, start paddling again to get back and catch a new one.

Ha. Fo sho. I'm mainly trying to see the peeps who go out of their way to be unhappy. Either there everywhere or I just attract them and so I'm meta not-happy. I dunno yet. Probably both.

At the moment I'm pickled tink, just put the last coat of sealer on the stereo cabinet I've spent the last 6 weeks building.

I got out of computing for many years and took up construction, from concrete to roofing and all between.
So I'm literally a jack-of-all-trades but a master of none. I look at people on here like HTCW and OG and admire their skill.
I'm just a hack but I love doing it.

A friend of ours owns a saw mill and I got enough Pecan to do the bookcase top and the Stereo Cabinet top, but didn't know I was going to build a Stereo Cabinet until a neighbor down the road offered me a ton of oak that had been sitting under his carport for the last 2 years.
With the Oak and Pecan I have left I'm making xmas presents.

That will accommodate one big-ass stereo!  That looks great.
Looks like you have a back panel...are you gonna be drilling holes through it to run the wires, or through the individual shelves? Or something else more ingenious?

Thanks, it's been a lot of work.
On the left is where the amp and receiver are located.
In the middle is an area for vinyl.
On the right there is a place for upright vinyl on top and I'm working on a drawer to go below that in the now empty space.
We have a turn table and an Akai reel-to-reel that will go on top. There's just enough room.

You can see why I built instead of bought!

I've always believed, had I been born at any other time where software developer was not an option, I might've taken up woodworking. OTOH, while I loved my woodshop class in high school, I probably would've made a miserable living out of it.

I try to always keep a positive attitude, even though I'm not always happy.
But I think the root of unhappiness is insecurity. So the better question might be, "Who here is insecure?"

Hah retired, just survived double bypass surgery with complications, bloody oath I'm happy. Health is returning, I live in one of the best parts of the world (no wars, famine or pestilence, just idjit pollies).
I used to think I loved coding, turns out I just did it for the money so no coding in retirement (thank the great Ghu I would loathe dealing with AI).

Totally get it. I mean I still love coding... ish. Just the industry is old to me now and the same ol' same ol' is just - old. So totally feel ya.

Sorry to hear that buddy. My post was sneaky and worded in a way to draw out the miserable cows that just do nothing but argue on here (not you).
Anywho, being on any kind of stage is rough man. Having been on a few myself I can tell you though to just go through it. You'll be glad you did, buddy. Always face that fear. The person you'll become is invaluable.
