IIRC both Fedex and UPS's we didn't deliver because you weren't here to sign slips have a Deliver Without Signing by Default in the future checkbox. This gets more special in that shippers can apparently say "no I really mean it about the signature" and leave me with 1 or 2 notices/year anyway; some but not all of which I can opt out on an individual basis by signing the note and others that require in person delivery anyway.
For USPS you can do the same but it was a bit more convoluted in that it was a separate form (paper? web?) not a checkbox on the delivery failure notice. I only setup the USPS thing a few months ago after discovering it existed over an international-mail-with-tracking package; so i'm not sure if they've got a multi-tiered optout garbage fire or not.

I'm looking on craigslist for a pet rabbit for my daughter. I emailed one listing and they responded that there is a rehoming fee. Why bother calling it a rehoming fee? Why not just say you are selling your pet? Does the word "rehoming" make the pet owner feel better about themselves?

Seriously; I'd recommend getting a cat - rabbits can bite hard, and they're not always friendly and cuddly. If she still wants a rabbit, go for a Flemish giant rabbit, as they are relatively relaxed.
Ditch craigslist and look for a farmer; you'll have a decent and cheap rabbit this christmas. Do inform the farmer you need it alive, not marinated

So, I googled rabbit farmers again at your suggestion and found a rescue place. On their site they explain that a rabbit is NOT a simple pet to take care of. Not that they are complicated but they need attention and cleaning every day. I think a guinea pig might be better.

Um. They don't last long (4 to 6 years), and they're pretty boring most of the time - still a big commitment though. Better than Gerbils but not a lot.
A cat is a lot more independant and live a whole lot longer.

Plus cats smell bad. And I know, most cat owners don't think they smell but I can tell instantly the moment I walk in to a cat owner's home. It smells bad. I'm not sure why cat owners can't smell it.

Goedzo has an electrical collar (pet fence) that allows him to go into the garden, but not beyond the wiring. He often sh*ts there, instead of the litter-bin. Compare that to walking a dog, but without the walking.
If it rains, he'll prefer the bin. Picking up a single cat-turd is simpeler and faster than picking up 40 pellets that the rabbit produces between the hay.

I somehow don't think you're lazy enough to accept the smell of a cat turd for three days. Simply check it when waking up and when going to sleep, no biggy.

Yeah, mine really doesn't like to use his litter tray - but when he does I just clean the pooh and wet litter out as soon as I notice and it doesn't smell. Add in and empty and bleach of the tray every week and it's all fine.
Certainly rodents smell all the time, because they don't care where they go...

Yes and no; my mom had to take care of a lot of meat-rabbits, and they sh*t a lot and become aggressive if not given enough space.

I used to keep gerbils.
What's great about gerbils is that that don't smell at all and they tend to be fairly active.
With a little patience it's also possible to train them to run up your arm and sit on your shoulder.
I wouldn't discount gerbils as a good pet.

My pet rock is great - it never poops, doesn't bite or growl at visitors, has no special food requirements (actually no requirements at all) and just likes to sit on a sunny windowsill.
