Total eclipse path does not depend on the width of the country you are living in. Even if it is USA

The length of the path still needs to obey the rules of Geometry - even in the USA.

Eclipse path depends on several factors. The Sun and Moon diameter, distance between the Sun, Moon and the Earth. Astronomer can add more factors. But country width is not one of them.

You're obliviously missing the point. The OP is talking about the length of the eclipse path within the USofA, not the total eclipse path.

Yeah - but the rather long diagonal path of totality would, I'd bet, exceed that: Oregon to South Carolina.
Yet - Google Maps seems to only add a couple hundred miles to their figure.

Measure Distance on a Map[^] 2495, at least from where I clicked.

Most of what they teach you in school is either fiction, over-simplification, or politically motivated deception based on whoever is in power at the moment.

As I recall, 3000 was an approximation. The actual distance between coasts assumes a straight line of travel and varies between 2400 and 2900 (approximately) miles depending on which two points you are talking about. Even "corner-to-corner" it's less than 3000 miles. As far as the path the eclipse took, it's closer to 2500 miles than 2400 miles and a lot closer to 2400 miles than 3000 miles. So, I'd deem as mostly correct to say 2400 miles.

The problem is that, as you go southward, someone bent the coastline towards the west.

25 years ago I got myself a model kit of this 'Mech, scale 1/35. It cost only a few bucks, but one of the missile launchers was missing. I intended to build it with some battle damage, but never begun. Now I finally have a replacement from a ruined model. It's painted red, but fortunately the acrylic paint can be removed with alcohol.
After all those years I can finally build the model! How about going for something like this: Jade Falcon Mad Cat[^]
