Wonder if they could upgrade mine? Shipped with Win8.1, only a year old, hardware is eminently compatible with Win10.
I doubt the upgrade software would run on the Linux OS, though.

My experience to date is that a roughly six year old laptop with Windows 7 gets a green light on their initial test. They attempted the upgrade and the hard drive locks up (too many critical drive errors apparently) while the upgrade thrashes. The store refused to provide the Dell Inspiron 15 the next day due to this pre-existing condition. So I am investing $45 in a new hard drive and they promise to port the files and upgrade to Windows 10 today.
I didn't see anything about excluding failures due to pre-existing conditions in the offer, so I will probably take this up with the Microsoft PR people unless all is resolved to my satisfaction today.

From what I've understood is that Tesla Autopilot isn't a full fledged driver yet but designed to help during highway rides and a canyon road doesn't sound like a high way to me.
Should be named Tesla Copilot instead.

I work in sort of artifical vision (I actually use X-Ray but I briefly worked on stereoscopic vision) and to me is absolutely idiotical having a self guiding system relying so much on image recognition. I'd complement it and do a majority consensus with at least an infrared array and a sonic detector, if not a laser array.
I mean, it's not like Tesla cars are cheap so 1000$ more of equipment are totally worth the reduced risk of accident.

On the news item that I read it was specified that the problem arose because the vision system did not detect the white of the truck against the bright sky. So the systems look like they aren't working together, or ALL of them failed at once - quite dangerous.

That was the initial report. A few days later Tesla posted that the combination of visual and *dar returns resulted in the system thinking it was seeing an overhead roadsign. (Being on the far side of a hill could put them at the same line of sight as other vehicles.)

Conventional AI requires someone to think of and explicitly program every case. The list of potential cases is effectively infinite. Deep learning neural nets are mostly black boxes, WTE they'll do with untrained input in advance is largely unknowable. Training the latter with all the gazillions of very rare edge cases is why Tesla's have so much telemetry (any time the driver takes over for the computer is a potential new data point/scenario to be trained into the master network and pushed out as a software update) in their current semi-autonomous mode.

Yeah, I know that, that's the big reason we don't use them in my line of work (food and medicinal safety). It's better to have an imprecise but deterministic algorithm with known, insulable and maybe correctible flaws rather than a black box which can degenerate in whichever possible direction.
