Next week Microsoft will be telling us that our hair will fall out if we don't start using Windows 10.

No, thanks. My grandfather spent hundreds of Pounds Sterling (1950's prices!) on quack nostrums for his (lack of) hair. I don't intend to make his mistake...

Any hardware vendors who think this is going to be a win for them are deluding themselves. They've basically locked in 4 years of no-sale from the You'll Pry my Copy of Win7 from my Cold Dead Hands Crowd.

First of all the vendor is evil - in that manner, that the vendor has the uttermost interest you replace your fridge most frequently...
So if your fridge is driven by the internet all he has to do is to blame Google for updating the calendar API, and you left with no choice but replace...

Certainly true if it relies on anything but it's own software.
The shortening of the product lifespan is definately a big concern. If this was MS in their Win 10 mode they'd be sending messages saying if you don't update to the latest version of 'Fridge' we'll turn the temperature up 1 degree a day until you do..

This is the most serious bug you'll hear about this week: the issues identified and fixed in OpenSSH are dubbed CVE-2016-0777 and CVE-2016-0778. Though by the time you read this, it will be less serious.

The secrecy I mean is not related to "open source". It is related to... oh, this bug is reaaaalllyyy difficult to be found and it grants the possibility of XXXX
If the guy is nice, will make it public. If the guy wants to take profit, won't make it public and try to exploit as long as possible.
In other words... it has to do with Ethic and good conscience.

Ah, I see what you mean. There may be some of that. But there is also a well-funded team that is tasked with "debugging" OpenSSH/OpenSSL. So it may be that the first 700 or so bugs were mostly minor.
