The options for viewing threads are good. But the recent activity surrounding a CodeProject group collaboration have really pointed out a weakness in the thread views.
CP could greatly benefit from having a treeview style thread view that would allow someone to view a certain message depth.
Something like

I apologise from the outset for cross-posting, but I didn't see any recent activity on behalf of the people running codeproject in the general discussion forum - and I think it's a point worth considering.
I propose that it would be great in the future if people included a .mak file as part of any code submission. Like hundreds of thousands of others, our company has yet to fork out for the newest Visual Studio release - thus the solution files are no good to us, as we are still working with 6.
I think .mak files are used by a variety of IDEs and compilers - not just the MS ones. I know this site seems to be mostly MS oriented and thus encouraging upgrades etc, but I think the key objective is to spread knowledge - and this simple export could help everyone - despite their version or type of compiler.

With 5000 message boards on this site we can't be everywhere at once  This suggestions board send all postings directly to me so I'm always monitoring this particular board.
Make files in projects would be great but unfortunately it's difficult enough trying to ensure that we get even the basics right (no debug builds, no object files, actually including a demo project etc).

And here I was thinking the people who made this site so useful must be omnipotent or something  That’s the only reason I cross posted – I know it’s not really the done thing but I wanted one of you guys to read it 
I accept it must be difficult sometimes to get people to get the basics right, but a mere suggestion somewhere in the guidelines saying this would be a useful thing to would be good. Infact a few articles I've seen recently are merely more then a screenshot and something along the lines of "enjoy" - but that's a different matter (not many developers like to document stuff I guess!)
I have to admit that the article I posted myself does not have a .mak file with it – but then again you don’t think of these things until they start effecting you sometimes I know if it were suggested at the time I wrote the article I would have included one for the sake of a couple of mouse clicks.
Anyway that's it, thanks for listening!

Thanks, I've added that to my bookmarks. Tis a bit poor that MS keep changing their project versions - I thought they had got past all this sort of thing.
Perhaps someone could code an all encompassing intergrated project converter thing for Visual Studio .Net - now that would be sweet and surely a good contender for that competition currently going on.
I can't do that myself of course, not having VS .Net...

It would be nice to have a section, with articles telling about cool freeware tools ( like: WinMerge, or Programmers Notepad, or....).
I mean, no the software ( this can be downloaded from elsewhere), but the description, and the advantages or limitations...
What do you think ?

What about a clock on the forum pages showing the time on CP servers? This would be useful because non-US CPians like me would easily be able to see how old messages are.

I wish the time display would be in your local time as per your computer. Might also be useful (as an option, probably not default) to have two times listed for posts not posted by yourself. One for the time it was posted relative to your timezone, the other relative to the posters time zone.

Does CP have an RSS syndication? I couldn't find it (I might have overlooked that). If it doesn't have one, what's the problem of creating such a syndication (i.e. latest[^] in an RSS format)? Yes, I know CP provides a corresponding web service and I use it, anyway it would be nice and useful to have an RSS too.

Ok, I've seen the RSS link on the CodeProject Stuff page[^]. Aynway, that red button with XML on it linking to the RSS on the main page feed would be really nice

There is a good chance that I'm missing something here. If I am, please enlighten me. If I'm not, then I'm sure this has been discussed in the past. But...
Why is it so difficult to post code on a forum devoted to programming issues? Specifically, < and > cause problems, even if inside code tags. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but < and > appear quite frequently in C++ code.
There, I feel much better now.
(I'd love to see the forum switch to vBulletin.)
