Do you consider yourself more pedantic than the average person?

Survey period: 6 May 2013 to 13 May 2013

A programmer's brain becomes wired to be very, very, very precise in how we specify something. Does this carry over into your normal (for want of a better work) life?

... I would insist on getting a few choices to select from before writing this while my mor chaotic side thinks that a poll without choices is amusing.

What? Software? Ok.

Software projects should have someone coordinating the work, so that the whole effort does not degenerate to a code horror. The only important thing is that there is some architecture as a red line for the team to follow, but the details are less important than most pedants would like us to believe.

It's also uninportant, at least within a wide spectrum, on which line the brackets are placed, how varibles are named or how the code is formatted. And we certainly need no proxy pedants in the form of hysterical tools that make a big deal out of nothing.

I tend to credit other developers with enough intelligence to figure out what any piece of code does and to know what they are doing. Those are the things they should use their heads for, and not trying to shut up some tool or participate in endless debates over styles and 'standards' which are ignored by their own creators whenever it suits them.

There is an optimal spot between strict order and chaos where you can get a maximum of thought and creativity. Even fun and a feeling of accomplishment. Too bad that it can't be quantified, qualified and pressed into charts, so that more bosses whould resist the urge to whip their code monkeys through a project.
