While I'm not as vehemently opposed to the new format as DD  , I agree with a few of his points, and unfortunately the cons outweigh the pros a bit. This doesn't mean we should return to the old format, but there are quite a few tweaks that might make the new one easier to swallow for most.
Cons:
1. The colour differences should be more pronounced. I.e. Light grey on white bad, dark grey on white, good.
2. The amout of real estate taken up by minor pieces is extreme.
Why is so much of the page taken up by the headers like "New Message" and "Latest Updates"? Does the orange "Code Project" baneer at the top need to be that tall, or the "post a message" and "Ask a Question" buttons on the main page be that large? 1/3 less wouldn't lessen the impact at all, but would open up some useful space.
3. Why are the margins so wide and so much space between the articles (like in the Lounge)? The useful part of the page is limited to 2/3 of the actual width of the page. shrinking the margins would probably have the biggest impact in terms of usable space.
4. Missing the "First" link on the list of pages, at least in the Lounge.
Pros:
1. It is a cleaner look. Definitely more modern.
2. I like the button colour schemes
3. I like the first page. It's a good summary of the site.
4. The menu system seems cleaner and gives more direct access to all of the site.
My 2 cents, for whatever they're worth (hopefully at least 2 cents!).

Yeah, well, when I did this one I actually thought it would clear up the Lounge from the heated debate it was in since last night, and maybe give a more easily quantifiable amount of how many pro/con users are.
Oh, foolish hubris of mine. The Lounge is more heated than ever, and the amount of votes is irrelevant to get a big picture

I'm actually more curious on who's viewing CP on the phone or pad, as the new design seems to be aimed at those that does.
I would have thought that most people would be on a real computer, but I've been wrong before.

I view CP on the phone on a pretty regular basis (1-2 hours per day, when I'm too lazy to actually get my laptop with me in bed).

The new text is hard to read, compare to previous one.
The text is more light colored compare to background.

The text is also far too wide. The articles seem to have a fixed width of 110 to 120 characters which makes them very difficult to read. The average book has around 60-70 characters per line (and uses columns if the page is bigger than that). There are very simple readability reasons for this and reading some of Knuth's typesetting work would be helpful... but designers have big monitors and like to assume that everyone else does too and they all have their web browsers maximised on that big monitor. But we don't. We read things side-by-side and like to limit the width of the text to something that you can actually scan back and forth across.
