Browsers automatically ask for a favicon.ico when they load your page, there is nothing that you can do to stop this.
If it is the error that is bothering you there are only two options. Create a blank favicon.ico file or add a hack to prevent the error when it is a favicon.ico request.

Just thought, if you are using System.Routing you can add an Ignore route that stops the asp.net handler from trying to work with the favicon file. The should stop the request going though you asp.net pipeline and triggering and unhandled execption alert

what is the process for moving files over servers.
i have used System.IO class File.Move.
when i am trying to move files i am getting error as (Access to the path is denied).

The error is a clue: run as an account that has permission to move to the target directory (and permission to delete from the current one, for that matter.)

in our web.config file.
my problem is i have to move the files through almost five servers, at this point i am getting

Need some advice.
I have been tasked with updating the companies on-line quote system. The main requirement is that now users can enter more than one property and its contents for an insurance quote. Now this can generate potentially quite a bit of data.
Now I'm not sure if I should temporary save the data to the database for each page or look at such things as session objects / view state etc. I have looked at the following article ASP.NET State Management[^].
But for each type of temporary storage (if that is the right terminology for it!) cookies, view state, query string and hidden fields, it states these are for small amounts of information that you need to pass between pages.
Which or what would be the best technique for gathering potentially alot of data from pages? or should I update the database with data from each page?

One school of thought would be to "reserve" a quote number at the beginning of the process and use that as reference as you work through the quoting process.
For example: (my system is also a quoting system, requesting price quotes)
(This description is waaay over simplified, but you should get the idea ...)
1) salesman initiates a price quote with basic information: Who and which product. (Save quote and generate an ID).
2) Request can then develop based on additional information being collected, input from other departments etc.
3) Use a status field to determine the "state" of the quote: 100 - initial, 200 - customer service, 300 Mgmt approval, 400 - Approved.
I also use the staus of the quote to fields to read-only so that once someone has approved a section, no one else can change it.
At any point in the process you can save the work you are doing and complete it later.
Seems to work for me.

Hello,
Based on some values and on pressing submit, a grid is shown on the page. I have enabled allow paging. Once the user clicks on the page number 2, or any other hyper-linked page, it comes back with an empty gridview, except for the pre-selected form values.
Is there any setting, so when user clicks the page 2 of hyperlink, the grid does not loose its values?

It happens most of authors, I think some members just bookmark(instead of vote) the articles when they don't have time, later they vote for the articles or forgot that. That's all. But half of them(who bookmarked) surely vote for the articles. Most of newbies just download the articles.
