After selected data from database into reader, if reader is Nothing i want to prompt alert

Response.Write("<script>alert('There is no Data to show');</script>")

when I run alert didn't prompt, just got errir as below ...
Error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestmanagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the reponse is modified by calls to Reponse. Write(), reponse filters, httpModules, orserver trace is enabled.
Detail: Error parsing near '<script> alert(' .

It works perfectly fine for me..

add semicolon ; at last of your statement

even very simple

also got error.

You can't send script in the response stream and expect it to be executed. You need to register it as being script first. Look at this [^] MSDN page for further help.

you can easily access master page controls via Master.FindControl

Here is an example [^] of how to do it.

By the way you don't need to use <hl>, use instead css styling.

But how to replace two or more characters like for example if i find double quote or single quote, i have to replace different things.
if double quote is found..

str.replace("\"","doublequote");
str.replace("'","singlequote");

but is there any way i can have just one replace method but does these both things at once?

You can run the replace again on the replace result, like this:

str.replace("\"","doublequote").replace("'","singlequote");

You could make your own method to do so, also:

public static string QuoteEscape(string value)
{
    return value.Replace("\"", "doublequote").Replace("'", "singlequote");
}
