Im relatively new to this! So hello to everyone here  .
I have been writing this code to allow combo boxes to dynamically create other combo boxes within the form, and then those ones to create comboboxes from themselves also. If this is a bit confusing here is the code I have been working on
Private Sub ComboBox1_Change()
Set optionComboBox = Me.controls.Add("Forms.ComboBox.1", newComboname)
With optionComboBox
.Text = "Please Select an option..."
.left = 100
.width = 290
.top = 125
While Not (IsEmpty(Range("'Info'!a" & Counter)))
Y = Range("'Info'!a" & Counter).Value
If InStr(1, Y, "DM|") > 0 Then
If InStr(1, Y, "DM|SH|") = 1 Then
Else
optionComboBox.AddItem (Range("'Info'!b" & Counter).Value)

optionComboBox.SetFocus

And the problem I am having is that I cannot reference something in VB that has not yet been created.
E.g. I wish to do something like this
Private Sub newComboname_Change()
While Not optionComboBox.Text = "Please Select an option..."
Set optionComboBox = Me.controls.Add("Forms.ComboBox.1", "ComboBox" & ComboboxNumber)
With optionComboBox
.left = 100
.width = 290
.top = 165

Y = Range("'Info'!a" & Counter).Value
If InStr(1, Y, "DM|") > 0 Then
If InStr(1, Y, "DM|SH|") = 1 Then
Else

End If
Counter = Counter + 1
optionComboBox.SetFocus
Wend
End With
Wend
End Sub
newComboname being the new combo box that was created on the Combobox1_change event.
Is there a way to reference this in a Sub? Or any other way will do really!
Any help would be appreciated!!

This looks really really messy to me. Where did this code come from ? Does it even create comboboxes ? What is the issue ?

This is the issue ? I think you need to rework your logic entirely. Why do you need a while loop ? Does VB support do... while loops ?

The code is working no problems.
I just need to know how to reference something that is created as part of the post-process.
The example code could just be
Private sub UserForm_Initialize
Me.controls.Add("Forms.ComboBox.1","Combobox" & Randomnumber)
End Sub
Private sub (Combobox + Randomnumber)_change()
Do something
Because the combobox name is not pre-defined, i cant just make a sub for it with _change() at the back of it.

Why would you need to ? You can use an anonymous method, or you can write a common method that all the comboboxes call when they change.

Oh, I didn't say that.
Two things. First, unless you say otherwise, everyone will assume you're using VB.NET. The code you get to a VB.NET project to do anything like this will never work in VB6.
Second, I don't support anyone/anything using VB6. Though, there may be other people around here who do.

hi there,
I am trying to create a chart in crystal report (VS 2005) and want to show mmm-yy in group axis. But the issue is that if i use date (ordered on change of every month) it shows mm-yyyy and if i use a formatted string formula it is sorted alphabetically while I want it to sort in correct month order. Please advise

IIRC we used to include the additional field used for sorting in the result set from the stored proc, I think CR lets you set up 1 field for display and another for sorting. CR charts are crap, we went to reporting services so we could integrate Dundas Charts.

Solved it, In data section of chart expert, click on the group, click on order, select "In Original Order" from the dropdown and order the query in required order or use the group column in crystal report sort expert.

I have a small project where I have a single array of names followed by phone numbers. I need to load the names into a combo box. Which I can do until I get to the end of the array where the next index is invalid. How can I test and stop the lookup?

You can use a loop? Arrays are 0 indexed and you can get the count by doing array.Count - 1
so you can do
Public sub ttt()
Dim array(10) As Integer
For index As Integer = 0 To array.Count - 1
Next
End Sub
If this doesn't answer your question then I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

I believe it is Length and not Count

if you allocate a large array and then fill some of it with meaningful elements, leaving the remainder untouched, then arrays are not the best choice, you should use a generic List instead. Then you can iterate its content with a simple For Each
If all this is unfamiliar, you should look it up (Google) or better yet read an introductory book on VB.NET

Is this possible to search any thing in google search using VB and displaying on the form using custom design.

I'd go with what the customer wants, and with the tools that are available. Anyway, I wouldn't be too surprised to find the VB6 runtime on Weven-machines in the next couple o' years.
I posted a link to the support-statement because VB6 questions are invariably answered in the same way, and that answer just isn't completely accurate. One cannot get support for VB6 from Microsoft, but the Operating System will support it. That might be an important factor if you had to decide whether to (let someone) rewrite a large application.

Not quite. I keep demanding the demise of VB6 but it just won't die, no matter how many stakes you drive through its heart!
I just refuse to support anyone asking questions while they still use VB6. If we keep supporting it in the community, people and companies will just keep using it.

Essentially, the issue as I understand it, is people in the third world whose PCs won't run .NET. Beyond that, there is no good reason for using VB6, I agree with Dave. But the site is surely not going to lock anyone out, although the absence of a VB6 forum when they are different languages suggests that there's no expectation that VB6 will need get a lot of use, going forward.

OK, seems fair. So we probably keep things as they are (I don't expect Chris to split a forum, it is hard), and we continue to answer questions, i.e. those who can remember how things got done (or not) in VB.

Oh I'm not saying that they should be locked out of CP. I just choose to not support VB6 anymore. I'm kind of going against the fact that there were a bunch of VB.NET MVP's that clamored to Microsoft to continue support for VB6 into Vista and beyond.
