OK, then Left must be null. Why do you expect that it's not null, where is it declared ? What's the property setter look like, might something inside there be null ?

how else can i access Left.ascx if its null. I am guessing aspx loades before ascx loads? before it wasnt the case and was working properly. so how can i ensure that i dont get this exception. thank you

No, if you declare it in your aspx, it should exist when your page load runs in the aspx. So, the questions I asked still need answering
1 - is it just declared in the aspx ?
2 - is it null when this is called ?
3 - what does the property setter do, might the null be in there ?

1. what is just declared in aspx? if you are refering to
this.Left.AdType = ddAdType.SelectedItem.Text;
yes it is just declared in aspx. please note both in aspx and ascx I have public property called AdType and CountryName.
2. It is not null when it loads first. it sets 'All country', 'All Ads' as coded in ascx properties. it is only null when i try to overwrite the value of those labels in ascx
3. I have posted the code for property in ascx. it simply sets the value of the label thats all.

Ok I am really confused it doesnt throw null ref exception all the time.
This is the exception that I get after first time "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

I want to have some themes diferent models for the controls each one with a different SkinId in the themes file, and I want to be able to change all the controls of the site at the same time by only changing a variable, so if the variable has a value the controls get a sophisticated shape, but for other value they adopted a normal shape.
How can I do it without change te skinId of every control.

i have the following code, i have a method named bindgrid(),
when i call this method with
if (postback==false) bindgrid();
i dont any problem
but if i do it only like bindgrid on page load event
so my button command does not work and also my edit command in gridview
does not work , although its working with is postbak ==false ,
but can you please tell me that where is the actual problem ,,

You should buy a basic ASP.NET book and read it, so that you understand the page lifecycle. The prerender event is fired after button events, load is fired before. By binding to your source before a click event, you reset the data source and lose the viewstate that contains your button click.

I have created DataSet, and through adapters I wannt to connect with the data base..
but due to connectionstring it prevent me to connect successfully, because the password is not in the connnectionString . Now I want to change the connectionString
from
Data Source=BaharAli-PC;Initial Catalog=Radiology;User ID=sa
to
Data Source=BaharAli-PC;Initial Catalog=Radiology;User ID=sa;Password=abc
So plz help me, how can i do it.

Bro I created a DataSet file. I added adapters on it. but when i trying to connect with the data base, the error is looks like this..
Login failed for user 'sa'.
I have another database connetion which connect sucessfully but i have added the password in the connectionstring.

I don't remember the exact thing, but the time i was adding the first adapter on dataset file, they ask me to exclude password for some security reason. and i excluded the password at that time.

Does the Database having the access of that Sa. Please check the database security settings from SQL Sever Management Studio. Are you able to login in SSMS using the same user name and password that you are using in your application ?

Yes it works for username sa and password abc...
The time I am including new queries with adapter it shows data correctly.
Also if i click on any adapter to preview data it works...

Where have you defined that? How are you trying to change it?

Hi All,
I'm tring to create a very simple composite control, consisting of a textbox and a label (and some html to style it..)
I have created it and at first it seemed to work, but now it appears I have missed out something fundamental.
I have a Text property in which I am setting the text property of the child text control and retreiving the same child property.

return childTextBox.Text;

EnsureChildControls();
childTextBox.Text = value;
}
}
This works fine, unless on loading the page containing the control, I assign some text to the Text property. The text I assign appears in the child textbox fine, but when edited and attemped to save, it loses the new child textbox value, and reverts to the Text property as it was set on page load (or any other event that I use to populate it).
I'm guessing it's some kind of viewstate issue? Though this is the first time I have attempted a custom control of any sort and the help I've been looking up has led to me breaking it completely a number of time while trying various solutions.
If anyone has any idea what the problem is, then I'd appreciate your help as I'm running out of time to spend on it and don't want to have to abandon it because of deadlines.
