With Javascript how do I set the focus to Text2 in ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_TimeEntryBox2_Panel1?

I am the voice of inexperience but I'm pretty sure it's bad practice to have more than 1 control on the page with the same ID. Can't you give each control a unique ID and use Javascript's .Focus method?

The HTML is coming from a User Control. Two of the same User Control are on the page. When viewing the source from the browser this is what it looks like.

If you have the source code you can chaneg the ID with meaning full name or use the ID that you are getting from ViewSource for focusing.

Just find the ID of the control using GetElementByID method and use ControlObject.Focus() method to set the foucs.

Why ? It should not be.

Or you can first run the application, from view Source what exact ID is generating for that page control then use Control.Focus(). This will work.
But this is not a good approch.

In his markup he has 2 HTML input controls both with the ID of "Text2". I was under the impression that this was not good. If he calls 'Text2.Focus' from his Javascript, which input control will get the focus?

When I use GetElementById("Text2") it always gets the one in within ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_TimeEntryBox1_Panel1. How do I get the one that is within ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_TimeEntryBox2_Panel1?

hi,

in my gridview i have some bound columns,and some template columns.and three columns dynamically added to the same gridview on the button click event.

code for dynamic created columns like this

Here's some advice.

1 - buy a book and read it
2 - learn to use google, especially when you have no idea what you're doing, because your questions right now are so basic and lacking in any sort of understanding, that you need to read articles, not forum replies
3 - before you post in a forum, read the guidelines.

your question tells me that you really have no idea about anything you're looking at. I'd assume that you're teaching yourself to be this lacking in resources, but experience tells me that the odds are good that someone is actually paying you to not know anything about ASP.NET. I hope that is not true. Either way, if you don't have a teacher, you need to buy a good book and work through it. I don't know if you know anything about programming, if you do not know C# or VB.NET, you should learn that first, because ASP.NET is a framework on top of .NET, and you should not learn both at the same time. Plenty of people try to do that, they end up asking clueless questions for hapless and eventually furious clients, whose projects never quite work, and are poorly written and unmaintainable.

Why don't you use Grid instead? It doesn't look good in DropDownList.

The neatest way I can see is if you have a list of a struct, and the struct has a property which returns the three properties in the format you want.

U can Do it in two ways u can directly retrive the data from the database in the form of store procedure
or
U can take the three fields i.e. id,name,degination from the database and while displaying u can combine them .

DropDownDrivers.DataSource = Reservation.GetDriver();
        DropDownDrivers.DataTextField = "id"+"-"+"name"+"-"+"name";
        //optional
        //DropDownDrivers.DataValueField = "id"+"-"+"name"+"-"+"name";

and if u Insert the above data again u can use separotor operator as "-"
and u can take the value

I have implemented some drag n drop functionality using the example by WickedCode with their colour dragger, the dragging and dropping works perfectly however....

I have implemented a callback facility using so that when the user drops the object on its target I can perform the relevant update on the server refresh the screen and continue and this is where the problem lies. After the callback has completed my drag and drop no longer works!

I'm guessing it something to do with the Javascript code gaining a reference initially to the drag and drop objects but then when I perform the callback those objects get recreated within the updatepanel and although they have the same id the reference is obviously lost??

Has anybody got any references, links to helpful documentation on this subject as it seems quite sparse!

Hello friends,

I know i have posted similar thing yesterday but i didn't got my solution yet.

I am using popup window in my application which i am creating like this

I want to pass a string value to my SearchBOM.aspx page, which i'll enter in a TextBox.
I tried using Session variables, but i found out on net that i can't use sessions in client side code.
Then i used HiddenField for the purpose but still it didn't helped me.

Now i want to try for QueryString option.
I know i have to pass it by putting '?' after pagename but it still giving me errors.

Am missing something? Can anybody help me?
Also i am using Content PAge and not a normal web page.
