hey Buddy you are right , i have to leave another part of the page that is not used often to flicker so that it can open a way fro other controls that really don't need flickering.

I have a dropdownlist with existing items. If the user can not find a correct entry in the list, I want him to be able to add a new item to the list immediately. Is there a way in the webform for the dropdownlist area to be treated like a textbox for dataentry purposes.

Better do one thing take dropdowlist, beside ddl put one button called add and when ever click that button its visble textbox and add name replace to submit . i think this way ll be use for u.
