You put the database back end (ie: the file with the tables in it) on a server/shared location, and you address it like this:
\\servername\sharename\databasename.mdb

You can put your database file to your Server and connectionstring must have the name of Server,database name and database password.

Hi there - I am a newbie to the world of programming and have come across a huge stumbling block that is driving me wild.
I am trying to create an application that will get a list of all the xml files in a given directory, read through the contents of the xml files (they are all of identical format in terms of node/element structure) and populate a datagridview with the contents.
I have created an array of xml files and have been successful in binding one of the xml files to the dataset but I cant get it to iterate through the entire array. If I carry out the same task but output the contents of the xml file to a listbox it works successfully.
Can anybody help?
The problem code is:
Public Sub xmlReader2(ByVal dirPath As String)
Dim xmlfile As XmlReader
xmlfile = XmlTextReader.Create(dirPath)
Dim ds As New DataSet
ds.ReadXml(xmlfile)
DataGridView1.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)
End Sub
This sub is called by another sub which is iterating through the array. Like I say, I can output the information to a listbox so I presume the problem must be with the above code.
Hope some clever person can guide me in the right direction.

Hey im in the process of creating a railroute manager with VB as Front End and SQL Server as the Backend. It has a server and 3client layout (LAN). I have programs ready to be deployed asper the privledge levels on the server and the clients
And the doubts is How do I logically connect the systems and make my DBrelations on the server dynamic with client actions? I have heard that Socket Programming is something about it.

Your question is so general that it borders on unanswerable. Noone can give you a clear answer because your asking about how you should design your application, but provided no details about it that would drive an appropriate answer.
Also, the various parts of your question have nothing to do with each other! "Dynmaic relations" does imply any differences between how your data model would react to a users privilege level. On top of that, I fail to see how "Socket Programming" would affect how your data model is designed.

I have been working on a database program with a Access database. I have on one form a datagrid and it has "Employee Table" table on it. Now what I want to happen is if you click on a row and click "Open" button (btnOpen" it fills the information to another form with text boxes like "TxtAdd1" (Address) and so on.
Also, I have a save button on the form with the text boxes (Save Form) and what I want is to be able to save the information in the text boxes as a new employee in Employee Table, but if the employee ID is same as already in the database table, it will say message "This employee ID already exists, would you like to overwrite current employees information?" (Yes or no)
Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to make this so I don't have to use databound items on text boxesThanks in advance.

You need to write code in the button click events of both the buttons. In case of open, get the selected row and fill its data in the textboxes. In case of save button, use classes in OleDB namespace to save data.

Assuming this will be the primary key, it should be auto-incremental or should be generated through code. Why are you letting user create the IDs?

I fixed that, just realised the ID should be an autonumber. Anyway is there a way of adding the information on all the textboxes to the database table as a new user... the txtAdd1 text will be stored in Address 1 cell and so on.

Create a stored procedure in your database and send the textbox values as parameters or build a query in your code and perform insert/update using Command object.

u should use command builder to save or update which will generate command dynamically insert for new and updated for existance.

I would like to know how to write out excel 2003 excel worksheets to separate files. Basically I need to write out each excel 2003 file generated by a vb.net 2005 desktop application to separate workbooks. Each separate worksheet is going to be email and encrypted for each customer.
Thus I would appreciate any suggestions that you have how to accomplish this task.

I'm assuming you already have Excel interop code written that creates the worksheet.
All you do is create a new Workbook, add a new Worksheet to it, populate it, and save. Rinse and Repeat.

Not true. You just close the existing workbook after you save it and create a new workbook, then add a new worksheet to it.

The simplest route, though no the most proper, would be to just create a class-level variable to hold the Excel app object, then you can use it through out the form class.
