Did you check the browsers' character encoding setting? (Tools->Character Encoding).

Thanks for your response.
It turns out it was because the tick symbol isn't part of the character entity set in the HTML4 spec, and so it all came down to whether the individual machine contained a font set with the corresponding glyph. There are only a couple of fonts that have that tick glyph (one of which is Arial Unicode MS), and it turns out the machines that displayed the character correctly had the full set for that font installed and the ones that didn't display it correctly only had a subset installed.
In the end we went for a Wingdings tick to get around the problem.

Hi
Im doing a project for uni, testing the performance of a particular database in a web environment with high concurrent users accessing it. My main aim is to find if there is any difference in performance when I change some parts of the code. My question is does it matter if I use a free host with limited bandwidth? Are there any other methods on finding out how to measure the performance of the database with thousands of users accessing it without purchasing a host?

does the bandwidth given limits you the number of concurrent users you want to test? If no, then there is no issue there.

I am invoice in php, i made a form in html that includes (textfield,checkbox,textarea,radio button and drop down list) i want that when the user click the submit button all the filled form should be send to specific mail.

I have a html File which launches perfectly through the server. I also wrote a cgi which reads the same file, and prints it out via stdout.
At the Client Side I get a fatal Error.
At the Server Side I get the Following Error:
'[Tue Mar 03 02:11:39 2009] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] malformed header from script. Bad header=<html>: Logon.cgi, referer: http://localhost/'
The HTML Code is obviously Correct. Any Ideas?

Bram, are you writing the correct HTTP headers before the HTML content?
For example, are you following the HTTP RFC 2616[^], specifically section 6. Response?
If you're just opening the stream and pumping the content of the file to the browser from the CGI, it will fail because it does not have the correct HTTP headers that you need to write into the stream first.

Hi there,
I'm a beginner when it comes to webpage dev, and asp scripting.
When looking for some assistance regarding a sendmail script for a webpage i am developing, I came across this: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/asp/sendmail.aspx[^]
Upon reviewing it looked to suit my needs, with some modification.
I made the changes (or thought I had) that i believed were required for my site, however when testing the page, I clicked on the "submit" button and was prompted to either save or run the asp file.
below is a copy of the form which contains the submit button

The site is to be hosted on a Win2k3 SBS Premium server, by my client.

Like Christian said in your asp.net forum post, if this is new development consider dropping asp in favor of asp.net. Trust me, I support asp and it is not worth it.
But if you have no choice, then look at this one[^]

This is a new development, and I am not tied to using asp, however I did find it easier to try and modify, due to my limited experience in doing this.
IF asp.net is better to use then, if possible does anyone know some code that I can use to try and get my button working and emailing to the user listed in the site?

Emailing in ASP.NET is trivial. I am confused tho ? Either this is your site, in which case you want to do consulting, or it's someone elses site, in which case you're being paid to write a website for people who want to do consulting. Either way, it sounds a little scary to me.
ASP is harder to use, harder to get support for and a flat out nightmare. Move to ASP.NET. Plenty of good books still available, plenty of articles, etc.

it is a site for a friend's business, so no being paid to build it, just a chance to develop my skills a little further.
I have never built a site where anything has been submitted via email, hence the limited knowledge i have in the area, and the willingness I have to use whatever is easier.
the purpose of the form is for people enquiring about any of the products he installs (industrial aircon installer)

If you looking for just asp.net emailing, it is trivial. Just goole [^] and you will have it running in time at all.
But, if you know familar with asp.net, I suggest spend sometime learning it. It is much easier than asp and it will be time well spent (compared to learning tricks in asp)

I have seen numerous mentions in articles about MS InfoPath which say, in effect, "if you want to read or write ORACLE data, you can do so via web services".
However, I've been struggling to find an article that talks about going from a need to access an ORACLE table to the writing of a web service that is "infopath-friendly", to the installation and use of said web service.
Is anyone aware of a book/article/web site/video/other format type resource that provides a beginner with the information s/he needs to accomplish this task?
I know that I recently saw a mention of someone using Access to act as the bridge. However, if an intermediate step is necessary, an illustration of using a web service for the bridge would be best for the direction I am headed.

I have a web site ready in local development environment. It is a css driven site where the css is called from the css folder present in the local directory. Now all the images provided were in png format thus with layers... to show demo in the design the login box was made as an image with the text area and everything including the button, but all in layers which could be removed to get the desired bg for the login. Now the person who was asked to convert this template to Smarty says that he had to redo the css.. I have no clue what he is talking about and is charging 120$ extra... What he says, is it true or he is just bluffing and he has more material than is required to make the smarty template....
