I know the feeling have one off those project's under my care as well. Written by a former employee, hasn't given me gray hairs (yet) but at my age it would have to be a very horrifying project to do that Smile | :)

Did learn a lot from it tho, mostly how not to do something but that's a start (I guess).

If you'r using the standard windows controls you'll have to create the form from scratch and do all the painting yourself (not easy and very time consuming).

This could also be a windows theme the user installed, in that case you don't have any control over it.

If you are using components there is a chance they support skinning but you would have to look at there site for that.

what do you mean full? Are you create any special type of log file?
you can add as much as data as you can in log file(however it depends of your drive size)

I'm working with VB6 (it's the only programming interface I've got). I'm trying to write an application that allows friends to send files back and forth, sort of like MSN does, but with other features I plan to add myself.

I basically just need to know what controls and methods I use to set up and send/recieve these transfers between two machines over the net. I did a google search and found a lot of articles about the Internet Transfer control, but these seem to only allow you to download content off of websites.

Forgive me if this has been discussed already. I'm gonna keep searching, but I wanted to post this here in case someone had any quick answers. Thanks in advance.

You'd probably be looking at implementing your own server using Sockets. I'd start by Googling for "VB6 winsock".

Redirect to older version of assembly?

Hi!

Is it possible to redirect to an older version of an assembly if I have set "Require specific version" to true?

I have tried something like:

<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity name="mySecondAssembly"
publicKeyToken="32ab4ba45e0a69a1"
culture="en-us" />
<bindingRedirect oldVersion="2.0.0.0"
newVersion="1.0.0.0"/>

With no luck. It still tries to load the newer version.

Using Word 2000 files from VS 2005

I'm trying to open Word 2000 docs using Visual Studio 2005. (Our Office won't be upgrading anytime soon.)
I tried installing the Office Tools from CD, but it complains I don't have Office 2003 SP1 installed.

Is there any way around this mess, using VS2005?

Process class[^], use it to start your word document and word should open it automatically.

Some examples[^] on how to use this class to start opening up files on your computer.

I forget what version 2000, I think it is 10.0 or 9.0, download the proper PIA and then import the reference to the WORD primary interop assembly.

I'm new to VB.NET,I have this error:

System.Data: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: dataSet

I want to display the data search result into the datagridview for the user. But I found the above error. The following is my code,the user click button1(which is the search button),then it will search from the database. The message box I'm here have pop out like usual. Anyone can tell me whats wrong with it?

Have you tried to omit the filter of the select-statement?

Changing this line:

SQL = "SELECT * FROM company_detail WHERE Comp_Name LIKE '" & x & "%'"

To this:

SQL = "SELECT * FROM company_detail"

Does this have rows?

You didn't specify which line the error occurs on, but I can take an educated guess:

ObjAdapter.Fill(ds, "Client_Comp")

Your DataSet object, ds, is Nothing, or null in C#. You have to create an instance of a DataSet object to pass to the DataAdapter.

Console application independent from .NET Framework [modified]

How should i configure a console application to be independent from .NET Framework? Can i copy all the assemblies which it references to a CD with the application itself and run it then on a computer where .NET framework isn't installed?
This is my program:

It referenced only Microsoft.VisualBasic namespace in system.dll, so i copied it on the cd. That is because of shell command and appwinstyle command, but how come that "My" keyword doesn't produce any references? I found out that it requires system.win32.registry reference. Why doesn't it appear with the references list?

If you have written your program in a .NET language, you need to install the relivent version of the .NET Framework.
