Translating from C to VB.NET is a lot of work. the List class is the equivelant of std::vector.

translating from c to vb is what i am working now. i as working in c to microprocessors, so now i am with lots of questions.
i understand that i have to use the List class. but how do i use now the pointer as the type of the data ? is the same as in c?

VB.NET doesn't support pointers, so you have to look at what the concept behind the code was and rewrite that concept in VB.NET. You cannot get away with a line-for-line translation when going from C to VB.NET.

I've been revisiting the old SQL highlighter rich text box using the MSSQLParser.vbSQLParser to do all the work for me and it works fantastically with hardly any coding at all, however, there does appear to be a mistake in it -
if a string in quotes has a carriage return in it, only the part of the string upto the carriage return is colored correctly, the rest of the string is colored as if it wasn't inside the quotes which is different from how the SQL Query Analyser would handle it. Has anyone come across the problem and if so do you have a code snippet which I could run after MSSQLParser.vbSQLParser to fix the error?

Hi,
I think I have this all working fine, and I can send you the code if you need it. However, I want to know how I can use the parser without SQL Server on the same machine. It all works fine on all our dev boxes, but probably because MSSQLParser relies on some other SQL DLLS, I haven't got it working on boxes without SQL Server.
Any tips would help.

I generate a PDF by exporting from crystal report with VB code inside. I use ADO.net data set. In my pdf each page contain information of a certain institution including its name. I generate all good, but like to bookmark all institution name in PDF . How to do it?

AFAIK, Crystal Reports doesn't support bookmarking, so you'll have to do the export, then report the PDF using another library that DOES support bookmarking and have your code make the changes appropriately. I have no idea which libraries do and do not support this. It's going to be a matter of Googling and doing the research on them.

Hi,
I have a program that needs a way to modify some variables in an instantiated form.
For example, I can have like 5 instantiations of frmLive, each having a sample() array.
Now, I want one frmEdit to be called and allow me to edit the sample() array of the frmLive who called it.
Hope you get the idea.

you can pass the variables in to a constructor, set properties on the form instance, or if the form is showing and properties are not an option, you can set up delegates to call methods in the form instance to tell it the new values.

When you open the instance of the form you can pass it the parent of the form as follows :
frmEdit.Show(me)
You can the reference the Parent form from the child as follows :
Dim frmParent as Form = Me.Owner

Yes, but then to access your own properties, you need to cast it, which means the child needs to know too much about the parent. Delegates are better.

Hi,
I have written code to compress a file in to exceed zip, it is zipping properly but, I am able to open the compressed files, but the compressed file is not coming with the default ExceedZip icon.
I am not getting the reason.
Can anybody please help me in resolving it. The Code that I wrote is below

If the filename is not xxx.zip, it won't have a zip icon, the file system handles that.

Have you tried saving it as a .ico file and importing it as a resource?

The operating system just looks at the file extention to pick the icon that it's going to show for that file. If .ZIP is the REAL extension of the file (did you turn on Show File Extensions in Explorer??), AND there is a registered application that handles .ZIP files, the file you write will be shown with whatever icon the application registered with Explorer.
There is NO code you can write the will change this!

My mistake, I thought he meant his app would show the contents of a directory and he wanted his own icons...
quite frankly I'm not sure I even understood what I just said.

So my question is how can I make the DirectSound continue playing a sound without getting interupted when other code is executed?
