This puts the code in the same page as the ASPX. How nasty.
I recommend buying a book and working through the examples in there, rather than grabbing code off the web and trying to work out how to run it. The answer to your question is that VS2005 has a web server built in, so just hitting F5 should launch your page.

There isn't, nor should there be. Excepting of course that AJAX is just a way to use javascript, so you can write any control you like with it.

Well, I would not do that. b/c the only way to log in with pure AJAX, is to make the person logged in, in javascript, which can be hacked.

You might be getting some error when sending. You are not catching any of the exception, so it will be silently ignored here. Try removing try/catch or catch specific exceptions and try again.
