1 - how to use cookies ( try google )
2 - why it's a terrible idea to store a password in a cookie ( just stop and think for a moment )

I created a web Application.
that web application has one Defaul.aspx Page. I added one Button on the
default.aspx page.

I can't debugg my javascript.while running the web applicaion I got the
Popup error message like below.

When i click no browser works fine. stil can't debugg the JavaScript.
I checked the same code in my fried machine.i can debugg the javascript.
if i click the Yes option Microsoft Development Environment is opened. and it points out the debugger word as an error in javascript.
Please help me.

Hey, guys.
Ever get the feeling you're overlooking something terribly, terribly obvious?
Here's the scenario. I've written quite a few controls that spit out various lists, grids, etc. for a given site. One of the things I need to do is provide copy and paste scripts that will allow other web sites to display this formatted data on their pages. Naturally, I'd like to just wrap this stuff somehow and then stick that wrapper inside the script that they can copy, i.e. I don't want to reinvent the wheel I'm already rolling.
As I look over Render(), RenderControl(), et al, it seems like there should be some clever little trick that will let me do this, but for some reason (perhaps I should try sleeping on occasion), it's just not jumping out at me. I'm using the .cs / .ascx model, i.e. I'm not manually spitting out all the html in the control itself but rather just doing the normal markup / codebehind stuff. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Anyway, if anyone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, I'll be happy to post a few  icons just for form. I know it's gotta be something blatantly obvious I'm missing here.

Well your post is 12 hours old now with no replies so I will say this. I'm not at all sure I understand what you are saying but the only translation I can get from that is you think you can use javascript to obtain HTML fragments from site 'B' to display on site 'A'. I'm pretty sure that violates a primary security tenet known as cross site scripting and therefore you can't do it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Obviously I didn't phrase the question very well, in part because I don't know what this common technique is called. Here's an example of what I'm trying to accomplish:

In this example, the script with the horsepower is show_ads.js, and of course the result is a list of Google ads displaying on your page. However, I have also seen this technique used (and darned if I can find an example at the moment) with the url in the script pointing not to a javascript file but rather to a regular page, e.g. src=http://www.somedomain.com/DisplayStuff.aspx
The end result I'm looking for is the same as Google, to display a list of stuff. And I have controls written that do just that. Therefore, what I'm looking to do is put those controls on an aspx page in such a manner that the output is redirected to the user's page where they've pasted the script in, ala the example above.
Apologies for being so clumsy in my description, I'm sure I'm making this harder than it needs to be.

Well many things that are very similar like WebService for one. The bottom line is you have to expose the feature from the server side using one of several techniques. However this technique is normally used to publish content not behavior or layout which is more of a software component. It is not clear from your posts which category your product falls under.

It's quite embarrassing for a guy who's supposed to have a working grasp of the English language to have such difficulty communicating a concept.
I want users to paste a script into their page that will result in a list of stuff being displayed, just like the Google Ads example I gave. And I'd like the source url to be not a javascript file, but a regular .aspx file.

Yeah that's what I was guessing at. But I still don't know if that's what you need. The solution you are searching for is dependent on if you are providing presentation or data, which I still can't tell from your posts. You can also provide both of course but that is not generally done. The separation of content from presentation is normally adhered to these days. If you are providing a presentation component then that is a software component and there is no need for a server resource as part of that solution. If you are providing content then should just return XML from the server and let the consumer present it in whatever fashion they desire. Does that help?

I am using asp.net 2.0, trying to create chat application. I am copying the user entered text to a asp.net textbox using the following java script function

But the problem is i always see the TextBox1.Text as empty instead of "chat message entered by user" which i copied thru javascript function, but i can able to see in internet explorer that the TextBox1.Text gets updated when i call postback.
I put alert before calling chat.aspx like this
alert("TextBox1 text VALUE = "+document.getElementById("TextBox1").value);
it is also showing the updated value, but i could not able to see in the codebehind (page_load method)
But if i do any postback thru button click, i can able to see the updated vlaue of TextBox1.Text
Can somebody help me out.. what went wrong on this?

If you run your app and then watch the html source via your browser you will find the ThextBox1 control has some additions. Put that one in your getElementByID().

Hello All,
I am using TreeView Web Control with ASP.NET 1.1. It is working fine but i have one problem when i expand one node, the previous one still remain open. Is thr any way to customise this control so that i can expand one node at a time and prevous open node must collapse when i try to expand the new one?

Hi, Suneet.
I just addressed that particular issue in a 2.0 site I was working on. The fix was fairly straightforward.
I maintain the currently selected node as a property. In the event handler where a node gets selected, I first collapse the currently selected node that the property refers to. I then allow the newly selected node to be expanded, after which I update the value of the property to the new selection.
Been a while since I worked in 1.1 but I believe that conceptually, a similar approach will work for you as well.

Not sure what the best forum for this question is, so I apologize if this is not the right place...
I'm wondering if it's possible to query IE from a Windows process (as opposed to a browser plug-in) to get info on the web forms that the user is filling out. For example, what data has a user entered in a form field, and what is the form field name or ID that the user just entered data into. Are there IE events that publish this kind of information? It seems like it could be a security risk...
Thoughts?
