Hi,

1. I don't know exactly what you mean. But if you are meaning how to set the group policies to client computers than you can do that through the Active directory. Set the group policies (with caution) and assign them to the correct OU's and so long. If you don't have an active directory (read domain) than you need to set the policies per computer. (i thought there was a way to set it once ok on 1 computer, export these security settings and import them into the others)

2. This can be done by WMI , this is easy, but keep in mind that when you are polling windows XP/Vista machines you are stuck with the firewall. To solve this, you need to do the following:

a. Open Active Directory Users and Computers
b. Edit the Default Domain Policy
c. Go to Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Network/Network Connections/Windows Firewall/Domain Profile
d. Enable Allow remote administration exception for the localsubnet
e. Allow inbound echo request in Allow ICMP exceptions
f. Logon to you windows XP client (use a domain logon)
g. Refresh the policy (GPUpdate /force)
h. Test it
