in the following statement
View state is a property of Web Forms page and each control of the page to save their values so it can be used between round trips to the server.
When the page is processed, the current state of the page and controls is inserted into a string and saved in the page as a hidden field. When the page is posted back to the server, the page parses the view state string at page initialization and restores property information in the page.

viewstate is stored as an encoded string in your web page. It's read back and used along with the values from the page's post, to create a new instance of the page class, containing the state of the page when the user posted it back.
Basically, it's the mechanism used so your code can ask what text was in a textbox, and get the right answer.

The page means the code that is sent to the browser. If it were not sent to the browser, how would it record the state of controls on the browser ? I recommend you buy a book on ASP.NET and work through it, these are fundamental things that you need to understand better than you're likely to based on forum replies.

When you are viewing page in browser, there is no code behind file. Viewstate will be stored in the page you are viewing as hidden field(HTML element). It will be encrypted. HTTP is stateless. So ASP.NET team created a mechanism called viewstate to maintain data across postbacks.

I have a Linkbutton like:

The CssClass "lbtnStyle5" is like:

My problem is that when I disable the linkbutton it looses it's style,
it's OK that it turns grey, but I don't want it to loose it's font-family, font-size and font-weight.
Is it possible to add an disable style to a linkbutton, or solve it by CssClass?
Something like:
a.lbtnStyle5:disabled {text-decoration: none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 8pt; font-weight:bold}

hi all
its like this when i am using reports
i am using xml ok my xml structure is not predefined it would keep varying
generally what we do is
1) create file.xml
2)add object to report
3)drag all the elements from object to the report
4)add source in the report viewer.
this is doing good now
i dont want to drag and drop my xml my vary (for each request of user it varies) so what i want is the xml which comes into file.xml accordingly to its xslt report should be generated (i,e dynamic creation of report )
is it possible
please help me

What is the best way to do this? I am making a custom control (not a user control) which shows an image to the user through a web page. How do I get the image from the custom control into my web page images directory?
Right now I have the custom control in a class library project. I have the image stored within the Resources.resx file in the class library. The custom control has a property where the programmer enters in the image directory location (a relative location) of the web site. The custom controls protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter writer) function goes into the given image directory location with the help of Page.MapPath() and checks to see if the image exists and if it doesn't exist then the image is copied from the Properties.Resources.MyImage to that location.
Problems that I am having with the above method:
1. It does seem very efficient to check to see if the image file exists every time the custom control is rendered.
2. At design time (within visual studio 2005), when I place the control on a web page and set the image directory location the image doesn't show up. Instead, I get some weird error message. But when I run the web page the image shows up fine.
Is there a better way of doing this?

Oh, you're talking about a database connection. The answer is still no, your web app cannot interact with Windows directly, or with other programs, without permission.
