hi all
I am making a second form to help the user enter info that will go into a sql query
I have seen many examples to pass info TO a new form but i haven't really seen anything about how to pass the info back. I am currently using a public string hold the info in form1 but it seems to me that there must be a better way to pass the info back something more like a return or something like that
My other question is that is there anyway i can triger an event when form2 closes?

A delegate is the best way to pass data back. It's also an event, so it's the way to tell form1 that form2 has closed, assuming it's modeless.

I am trying to get the comm port 1 working by using the .net 1.0 framework now I can do it with .net 2.0 with System.IO.Port but it seems that this is missing in .net 1.0.

There is a seperate download for interop with Office, that could be what you need. The COM objects yuo need are also not installed unless the right version of Office is installed. Nothing comes with the IDE, least of all the express edition.

I created a static MFC DLL in VC++ 8.0 in .NET and created a method and put the export declaration in both header and source file as __declspec(dllexport) for that function.Then .NET i created a wrapper DLL in C# like

XCENSettingsManager.dll is the VC++ DLL.Now i created a windows application in C# and called the method i.e.CreatePatientFolders which is a method in XCENSettingsManager.dll.Now it is giving error saying "Could not able to load XCENSettingsManager.dll or the module is not found.Can any one help me.

is it possible to create my own report writer? wherein the end-user of the application will be the one who will customize the report. if it is how could it be done?

What do you mean by creating your own report writer? Do you mean your own reporting engine like Crystal Reports or Report Viewer, etc?

here is the background of what i am doing.. i need to create a application wherein the user will be the one customizing the report to their liking. For example they would just drag and drop fields that they want to be included in the report.

Well, if you've committed to doing it, it's probably too late to ask if it's possible. It obviously is possible, but perhaps a fair amount of work.

Thats almost like asking whether there's a "designing skyscrapers for beginners" book for new building architects!
By way of some pointers, you are going to want to do a few things
1) Display to the user all of the fields available to report on
2) Provide the user a way to select one or more fields
3) Provide the user a way to aggregate data (sum, avg, etc)
4) Provide a view of the selected data in a graphical or tablulated way.
There are plenty of apps out there that do this, and I would personally evaluate a number of them before embarking on writing this myself. One I have used (but didnt like much) was called Viper by a company called SmartFocus (i think).

I assume then that you've not done too much programming - in which case this is probably too ambitious for a first project!

There really isn't going to be anything out there that you can just do this. It is a task of pretty good size like the others have said. Best thing you could probably do is to have some kind of form that the user creates his/her reports and apply their designed "report" to an already existing reporting engine like Crystal Reports or Report Viewer. The steps required/code required to do this is beyond the scope of a discussion forum.

I've done something a little like it years back :
Let the end-user define a word document with fields, and then use your c# program to start word and fill the word fields.
This wey your user get to define their own design, and you get a programing project that can be done i relative short time. (compared to writng a new report designer).

I've seen that done, and it really isn't that difficult to implement. Maybe it is something the OP ought to consider

I have one question. I asked in several forums about it but i got no reply.... Hope I will get some ideas here...
My code is as following.
mshtml.HTMLDocumentClass objHTMDocCls = base.Explorer.Document as mshtml.HTMLDocumentClass;
I'd like to call like "objHTMDocCls.childNodes.length" or "objHTMDocCls.childNodes.item(1)". But there is no property like that in childNodes.
How can I get the length and subitem of childNodes?
Note: Explorer is a WebBrowserClass.

To get the child count of an element IHTMLDocument2 can be used like this:
IHTMLDocument2 doc = this.browser.Document as IHTMLDocument2;
IHTMLElementCollection elemCollection = doc.all as IHTMLElementCollection;
IHTMLElement elem = elemCollection.item(name, null) as IHTMLElement;
IHTMLElementCollection elemChildren = (IHTMLElementCollection)elem.children as IHTMLElementCollection;
int childCount = elemChildren.length;
and IHTMLDocument3's childNodes property gives direct children of a document.
