That will work too. I have had some problems with datakey in the gridview, so I have decided to avoid it. If you ever have to manually set parameters in your sqldatasource or objectdatasource for some reason the datakey goes away, which is very bad. So I have stopped using them, since I find it necessary to manually set the parameters in the objectdatasource.

Hi all.
I have created one asp.net application that provides download facility from the server.Is there any way to count the no of downloads for a particular artifact or software.

How you are linking the download file ? Is it like http://domain/file.zip, if so I think you won't be able to count the value. What I suggest is don't give direct download file link, when user clicks download link redirect him to another page where download count will be updated and redirect to download file internally.
Download Link -> Inetrmediate Page which updates count -> Redirect to download file
You can get a rough idea on how many users downloaded. You won't get a correct count because there is no way to find out whether download finished completely.

You can either use the logfile of your webserver to determine the amount of downloads, or create an intermidiate page which counts the downloads like most popular download websites do..

In addition:
It is however possible to set the AutoPostback property of the TextBox to true and wait on the TextChanged event. However this event fires only when the user leaves the TextBox.
However, not exactly what you asked for and the user experience is rather bad.

Hi All,
SmartNavigation is obsolete in 2.0. MaintainScrollPositionOnPostBack is added. But there are some features which were more in SmartNavigation, absent in the present version.
One of the most useful feature was, not entering browser history items for post backs on same page. I tried lot of ways to implement the same using javascript, but i failed. I found that SmartNavigation uses FRAMES (IFRAME) for doing this.
Can this be done in 2.0 ? Is there direct property of page to enable this feature only ? SmartNavigation was for IE only, is there a more generic solution for the same ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello everybody
Maybe one of you can help me.
I have an ASP.NET page that contains :
- a TextBox
- a RequiredFieldValidator for this TextBox.
- an HtmlImage
I added an attribute 'onclick' to my HtmlImage. It executes a javascript fonction that fill the TextBox with a default text.
If I do the following :
- click on the TextBox
- remove the text in the TextBox
- click the image
Then the textBox looses the focus and calls the validator which detects that the text has been changed and is now empty. So the validator displays the validation message (a '*' char).
After that, the javascript function is called (event onclick) and set the TextBox text to the default text. But the validation message is always displayed on the web page whereas the TextBox has got a valid value.
I have tried to use focus() in my javascript function but it was unsuccessful.
Can I call the validation function in my own javascript function to force the RequiredFieldValidator to re-evaluate the text in the textbox ? Or have you got any other idea ?

I tried the following jscript on my button :

The js code does not hide the validation message that has been being shown until TextBox looses the focus.

Hello All,
I am facing some problems with Wizard control in Mac OS.
In Mac - Internet Explorer:
1. The wizard content (WizardStep) and Heading aligns Center of the form
2. The previous and Next Buttons aligns to the left center. Instead of the right.
3. FileUpload is not working in Mac - IE
In Mac - Firefox:
1. FileUpload is not working in Mac - Firefox.
No Alignment issues in Mac firefox.
In Windows IE and Firefox:
Ever thing is looks good and works fine.
I had already set StepStyle-VerticalAlign="top" in wizard and also set
<StepStyle Font-Size="8pt" ForeColor="#333333" VerticalAlign="Top" />
<SideBarStyle BackColor="#507CD1" Font-Size="10pt" Width="165px" VerticalAlign="Top" />
Plz let me know how to resolve my issues in Mac.

HI,
I want like 'select a file from one location and into another location'
this functionality should be inside gridview and when user edit the gridview row he can change the location of the file and if user want to view the file he need to click on the link means the file path it's self as link.
it's possible.if it's then please provide the code or example.

Where are these files ? If they are on the server, then it's kind of trivial, if they are on the client, it's not possible.

If you're moving files on the server, then you just need to render some representation of the possible paths a file can live in, and on postback, use the File class to move the file. Why do you want to do this ?
