As per requirement I am supposed to place data grid on windows form which have a Filter creteria..My problem is that I have three columns in a grid and filter functionality have to be provided on the basis of contents in all the three columns..so i have to place three comboboxes below column header(one for each column..so that user can choose value from combobox specific to that column and perform filtering).I m facing a problem with placing Comboboxes at required position..i.e below column header,so ithat it look like that three comboboxes are at first row of grid..Reply Soon..plz

Hi there,
I'm trying to create a class of combo box that allows users to select from a list of filter otpions. In the class declaration I have the following:
...
public filterTypeComboBox()
: base()
{
DataSource = null;
this.Items.Add("= (equals)");
this.Items.Add("<> (not equal)");
this.Items.Add("<= (less than or equal to)");
this.Items.Add("< (less than)");
...
}
...
When I add an instance of the filter combo it duplicates the list of items. Any ideas how to prevent this, or more importantly why this happens? (As a temporary workaround I have commented out the duplicates in the designer).

Curiouser and curiouser...
that seemed to do the trick, at least partially as the designer code now reads:
...
this.m_FilterTypeComboBox1.Items.AddRange(new object[] {
"= (equals)",
"<> (not equal)",
...
"begins with",
"ends with"});
...
However, this is quite strange, when I run the form the combo box lists exactly 2 set of the list when I scroll down using the thumb, however when I scroll using the arrow it only scrolls through 1 set. ie
The combo box items are:
= (equals)
<> (not equal)
...
begins with
ends with
= (equals)
<> (not equal)
...
begins with
ends with
but when I press the down arrow to cycle through the options it gets to ends with and the next item is back to the top of the list.
I'm stumped!

I'm looking for a tool or library (that can be used with C#) that would allow me to index many HTML files and to perform a search on this index. I'm looking for something that could be used on a Windows based application (could be a commercial library (other that dtSearch)).
My application is allowing our customer to visualize our publications, we would like to provide them with an efficent search functionality (similar to the search that can be used with HTML help or other Help viewer). The application is installed locally on their computer.
Any suggestions or ideas?

You need a sqlConnection object. In the connection string point it to the sql 2005 sql server. Often it is a good idea to store the connection string in the app.config file of your windows app. The connection string might look something like:
"Data Source=yourservername;Database=yourdatabasename;Integrated Security=SSPI;"
if you are using NT authentication. If you are using sql user and password then you have those items in the connection string instead of Integrated security

If the client does not have SQL Server on his machine, I assume he can see SQL Server over his local network ? If so, it makes no difference. If not, how do you expect this to work ?

Hallo
Does anybody know how to change the height of an item in a checkedlistbox control. I have tried setting the drawmode to OwnerDrawVariable and drawing each item myself but with no success. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When the DrawMode property is set to DrawMode.OwnerDrawFixed, all items have the same height. When the DrawMode property is set to DrawMode.OwnerDrawVariable, the ItemHeight property specifies the height of each item added to the ListBox. Because each item in an owner-drawn list can have a different height, you can use the GetItemHeight method to get the height of a specific item in the ListBox. If you use the ItemHeight property on a ListBox with items of variable height, this property returns the height of the first item in the control.

That only works for a listbox though. If you try that on a checkedlistbox it wont work. The checkedlistbox is inherited from the listbox and hardcodes the height to its fontsize + 2. The only way to change the height is to change the font size or alternatively draw the checkboxes to an ordinary listbox that is set to OwnerDrawVariable.

I'm trying to modify the filtered query example in the Noyes data binding book (ch 8) and have come up with a problem that I expect is reasonably standard:
If a user filters outside of the data set, ie the data filter returns 0 rows from the binding source the column names populated in the combo box a cleared.
The basic question then is how can I get the shape of a dataset, specifically column names from a dataset with no rows.
This is an issue for performance in my case as in the first instance I need JUST the shape of the data set to which the binding source is bound. ie I don't want to retrieve the 100,000 rows in my table and then filter them, I need to apply the filter then refresh the dataset (think search engine).
and I would prefer to do this from a control library.
Any suggestion would be most welcome.

Use "FillSchema" method to get only data structure and call "Fill" method when you need to get data.
eg.
yyy.FillSchema(dt, ....mapped)
xxx.DataSource=dt
