Custom control does not work on remote server

Hi,

I posted yesterday about this and did not find a solution. I am trying to create a custom control using the instructions given here:

If I use the local host for running the site, it works fine. But if I try doing the same on our web server, I get the following message, even if I don't insert the custom tag into the aspx page:

Compiler Error Message: CS0246: The type or namespace name 'myControls' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

NOTE: This error is shown when the page loads, and not when it compiles. It compiles without errors.

I'm using Visual Web Developer, although I also bought Visual Studio 2005 Standard recently. I am connecting to a remote web server using FTP.

Does anybody have any suggestions? This is driving me crazy. Any help would really be appreciated.

We have the following requirement coming up from our client.

Framework 1.1,c#
Ours is a Content(Mainly O/S files) Providing System. Files(.pdf,etc) will be stored in folder(s). Google will be given links to these contents. For e.g.http://<webserver>/<virtualdirectory>/<folder>/<filename>.
We may need a login for seeing some of the contents. We have following three options.
1. An aspx page -> download.aspx?file=<filename>&otherparam=<paramvalue>
OtherParam will control whether login is required for downloading this content.
2. HTTPModule which will control all the requests coming to Virtual Directory
3. Forms Authentication which will invoke the login page automatically.

Suppose if we give a link as in option 1, will google be able to crawl the PDF and search for keywords. How google crawls any pdfs and searches for keywords? I searched google itself and could not get the exact idea.
Second and third option also works.
We will check for authentication(Authentication through third party web service.) in all the options. User also will be coming through URLs listed in google search. How to differentiate between google crawling and external user so that authentication may be turned off during runtime to increase performance during crawling.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Google can't open the PDF and search for keywords.

There is no efficient way to find out the request is given by a spider or normal user. And one more thing google won't be able to crawl efficiently a page that uses session id's and authentications.

Frankly you have to choose if your content is publically available or not. You can't make information available only to Google, as they will cache the pages and make them available to everyone.

hai to all,
How to add a formula to the designed crystal report????
I have tried but it is not at all working properly.Give any links which will give an idea for adding a Formula for the designed crystal report???
I have designed a report with the VIew (means dataset).After that i want to add a formule on some of the fields.
CAn any one please suggest with some examples??

Open a Crystal Report in Visual studio.

Press Ctrl + Alt + T,
You will get Field explorer window in left hand side.
There you will find Formula fields,
Right click select New...,
You will get a dialogue texbox to type a name for formula,
when you type the formula name you will get a formula window.
there you can write your formulae.

Hi Guys,

I using the followiing code in my Web.config file

<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="default.aspx">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="default.aspx"/>
</customErrors>

My problem is if give an file name with extensions(like .htm,.php,.asp etc) other than .aspx the page is not redirecting to the default page.
It shows the error page of the Browser. HTTP Error 404 -File or directory not found.
I want to redirect it to my default page.

If anybody has suggestions or coding .Please reply.

because For instance, if you define a custom error for the status code 404, ASP.NET will issue it anytime you refer to a non-existing .aspx page
The custom errors are only issued for those elements handled by ASP.NET. For instance, if you refer to a non-existing .htm page, IIS issues the standard 404 error

This is Because web.config is not having any role in serving HTML or PHP pages. Webserver will be doing this job. Web.Config will be working only with the extensions mapped with aspnet_isapi.dll.

You can redirect HTML or PHP file by changing the default 404 error message in IIS.

Hi! i have a page called BasePage.aspx containing an iFrame whose default source is Login.aspx. in web.config file i have folllowing setting ...

project's startup page is BasePage.aspx. on running project loads Login.aspx page & give javascript error. if i set loginUrl="BasePage.aspx" then on running project iFrame starts displaying infinite pages & hanged. what is the problem?

I think you are confuse in the loginUrl
loginUrl set to the page which is the URL to use for redirection if ASP.NET does not find an authentication with the request.
means this should be the page where you want to redirect the user if the authentication fails .

suppose that a.aspx, b.aspx & c.aspx are commmon pages & others are secure pages. in my startup page there r 4 tabs. clicking on first three tabs: a.aspx, b.aspx & c.aspx pages opens in a iFrame in the startup page. now on clicking 4th tab, login page is opened in the iFrame in the startup page. if login is successful, then user can view secure pages & if not then iFrame of stratup page should contain login.aspx page. how can i achieve this?

In short after clicking 4th tab secure pages should be displayed if Login is successful otherwise it should redirect Login page ....
First of Whenever you want to Access the Secure Page are you checking user ?
means do authentication while accessing each secure page if it fails redirect it to Login page

You can only do that by dynamically creating it, and page_load is too late to do that and have events fire properly.

Hi guys
good morning!!

I want javascript code to disable the server controls inside a table or a div tag.

In detail...

when i check a particular checkbox all the controls in a table should get enabled... and if a I uncheke the checkbox all the controls in the table should get disabled.

I have used the following code
if(checkbox1.checked==true)
{
for(var i = 0; i< table1.length; i++)
{
if(table1[i].type == 'checkbox')
{
table1[i].disabled =true;
}
}
}

but it could not work.
I can use div tags insted of tables..
please suggest in this regards.

You can't do that by using table
one way is place all the controls in the Placeholder and disable the placehoder in the javascript .....

Opening attachments from list box

Hi,

I have a list box in which i am populating with filenames i.e. attachments. On click of the filenames i want to open the file.
Is there any was in which i can do this? i want the text in the list box to be linkable which will open the corresponding files.

Can anyone suggest me a way of doing this?
