You have two options:
1 - you can write a C++ dll which will allow you to require a password from the installer itself
2 - you can write some code inside your app that requires a key to be entered
In both instances, you have two choices:
1 - generate a key that is unique to the machine, which means they'd need to call you in order to finish the install
2 - just put a key in there that's the same for everyone

Obviously, you would 'embedd' it, by writing code that requires the key to be entered.

The registry is one obvious place to store that the key was already entered, so you don't ask for it again, yes.
One thing you need to know. If your app is VB.NET, a tech savvy user can decompile it, remove the licence code, and recompile. Easier still, they can read your code with a tool like Reflector, and just read how you generate your key, and thus discover it without having to know it in the first place.

hi i have two tables like want to display based on the date:
eg:
table1:
Id cardDate Intime1 Outtime1
1 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
2 12/22/2007 09:00 20:00
3 12/22/2006 09:00 13:00
and table 2:
Id leaveDate Intime2 Outtime2
3 12/22/2006 13:00 20:00
4 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
5 11/11/2006 09:00 20:00
If i select the date 12/22/2006" then it want to display like:
Id Carddate InTime1 Outtime1 Leavedate Intime2 Outtime2
1 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00 null null null
3 12/22/2006 09:00 13:00 12/22/2006 13:00 20:00
4 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00 null null null

No,it willnot work,
Ur query will work,when that two tables have same id...,
If table1 have particular date on some other ids,
then those records willn't display...,
Similarly table2 also have paricular date some other ids those records will not display...,
ex:
table1:
Id cardDate Intime1 Outtime1
1 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
2 12/22/2007 09:00 20:00
3 12/22/2006 09:00 13:00
7 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
and table 2:
Id leaveDate Intime2 Outtime2
3 12/22/2006 13:00 20:00
4 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
5 11/11/2006 09:00 20:00
8 12/22/2006 09:00 20:00
see ur query willn't show id=7 & 8,
and ur query will display table2 all records it willn't check the date condition
and it willn't show at one row when the date will be there in two tables

after connecting vb6 with sql+, i can create normal data reports but how should i create dynamic data reports........
or
i use only one data environment and one form and one data report then how should i create such a report that the value entered in the text box of the form(for example a class in a school like 10th or 12th) then how should it be possible that i can create a report that whatever class is entered in the text box i get the fields of that class from the table of the students in the same data report........

Hi can you plz advice me how to filter file while upload image through webapplication for example when open dialogue box has open you want to show the file type with *.jpg and *.gif the file dialogue box should not show any other file type.

simply set your OpenFileDialog box property like.....
OpenFileDialog.Filter = "JPG Files(*.jpg)|*.jpg|GIF Files(*.gif)|*.gif"
thus Your OpenFileDialog box will not show any other file type.....

Is there a way to manually order the columns in a DataGridView.
My grid is bound to the datasource at run-time. So I can't change the order in the designer.
Is there a method to do that in code?

what do u mean by Ordering of column?? Construct your SQL Query as you like....
are you using SELECT * FROM TableName WHERE.....???
instead use....
SELECT Column1,Column2,...... FROM TableName WHERE ....."

I have a vb.net application that has a third party ActiveX/ocx control on the form .. The control can display data in a so called data-grid like format ... and one can add/remove/re-position/set width of the specific columns of data you want to display
Having set up the right columns I want ...
e.g | Column A | Column B | Column C | etc ... All works fine ..
If I then exit the application ... and re-run the application .. I have to again "set" all the columns as I want them on the control ...
Is there a way to "save" the column layout of the control?
I am not able to see any "methods" associated with the control to do this ...
Is there anything within the overall vb.net form to do this ..?
I hope I have explained myself clearly enough ...

I have my MCSD .net. It was hard, but if you study you can pass the tests.
MCSD .net is .net 1.1.
MCPD is .net 2.0. I am having more trouble with these tests. They seem harder then the MCSD ones.

I got my books on amazon at a discount for the mcsd tests. They are pretty cheap for used copies this the certification is for .net 1.1. I have really found any good books yet for MCPD.

If we can use static variables inside instance constructor then why static method or constructor is required? When this will be used? Any practical usage of static or shared method.

A static method is a C# term. The vb.net equivalent is shared. A shared method can be called without creating an instance of your class. There are plenty of examples. For instance the 'string' class has a number of shared methods. There all over. A shared variable can also be accessed without creating an instance. A static variable is only good for a single instance of the class and can only be accessed if you have an instance. A shared variable on the other hand spans classes if you will.

No, I meant static. My wording however was chosen poorly (and yes defines a member variable). I shouldn't write stuff when I'm tired. What I tried to say was the static variable requires an instance (Of course it has local scope and can't be seen outside the method it exists in). This is wrong, however, becuase you could use a static variable inside a shared method. Being awake certainly helps clarify things. Thanks for catching my mistake.

Because, you can access static variables and methods without ever calling an instance constructor. For example, the MessageBox class is static, you call MessageBox.Show(), without ever creating an instance constructor. If it needs to initialise anything, a static constructor is the only place to do it.

Usually, it comes down to offering stateless functionality ( i.e. methods that don't ever change any properties on a class instance ), so that you can call it without having to create an instance. An obvious example, is factory pattern methods. So, instead of saying
Dim f as Foo = new Foo()
you would say
Dim f as Foo = Foo.MakeOne();
There are benefits to this design, and obviously, I cannot call MakeOne to create a Foo, if it's not a static method, because, if the constructor is private, I could never have an instance of Foo on which to call the method.
