let's step back and see what you really want to do...
1) how does the listbox get fed? (what dictates 'up to 8')
2) are you creating the textboxes on the fly or are all 8 on the form all the time?

Sorry for the delay!
Basically i have a list box populated with items from another listbox, drag and drop basically.
Within a different groupbox, i have 8 different textboxes.
How do i take the first element from the listbox and put it into the first textbox, second to second etc... They are all on the form at the same time.
Can a loop easily do this?

I see 2 "simple" options...(there are more complex but I dont' have time to show you how to do these)
1) manually check the index of the for next loop assign it to each associated textbox
ex:
for i as int16 = 0 to listbox1.items.count-1
select case i
case 0: textbox1.text = listbox1.items(i).tostring
case 1: textbox2.text = listbox1.items(i).tostring
.
.
end select
next
2) put the index in the tag property of each textbox
ex:
textbox1.tag = "0"
textbox2.tag = "1"
etc.
for i as int16 = 0 to listbox1.items.count-1
for each oCtrl as control in me.controls
if typeof(octrl) is textbox then
with ctype(octrl,textbox)
if .tag = i.tostring then
.text = listbox1.items(i).tostring

Hello Gurus
I got an application developed in vb.net, for the deployment of it I need to cutomize that.
I need to provide four option (checkbox) to user during the installation & based on the selection the installer should write the values in registry, I know how to provide the four options(checkbox) as well as how to write values in registry, The only bit I don't is how to check those option provided or choosen by the user(s). Schedule an event?? What event? What is this app supposed to be doing? And what's "Developer Express"?? Are you talking about Visual Basic .NET Express Edition?

Sorry, I will clear the question.
I want to fix an appointment on some day (For eg 14-02-2007). I want to display it in Developer Express(Thirt Party Tools) Scheduler like we used to display in Microsoft Outlook Calendar.

Hi All,
I have to write some VB 2005 code that will capture barcode data sent via TCP/IP. I will then put the captured data to a SQL 2000 database table. I have no problems with the database stuff, where I really need HELP is how to capture the data beginning sent via TCP/IP port.
I have the scanning hardware setup on my desk and working. Using the scanners setup software I can see that it is sending data out from its IP address on port 1024. The output string has a starting Header of “STX” and an ending footer of “ETX”.
Example (STX**************ETX)
* = Barcodes Data
I would appreciate any help. Have not done any coding with TCP/IP before.

Normally, I'd say you'd write a TCP/IP client to capture this data. You'd connect to the IP and port of the device and setup a NetworkStream object to read the data comming from the scanner. Exactly how you implement this, though, should be documented by the manufacturer of the scanner.

If I understand your question correctly, this can't be done in VB6. This is the Window Procedure function declaration that already exists in all VB6 Forms and controls. If you want to subclass the form, you'll have to supply your own, alternate, WndProc. You can find an example of installing your own message handler here[^].

But the .Net uses some files exist in the Oracle home like OCI.DLL which enables the .Net to connect to Oracle DB and retrieves data from it. So how do you say that we don't need to install Oracle on the PC????

If you are using any libraries in your application, of course you have to include them when deploying the application. That has nothing to do with the fact that the libraries comes from Oracle. You don't need to install Oracle to connect to an Oracle database.

As I told you, we need a library called OCI.dll which comes from the Oracle home (bin folder inside Oracle home) and also other DLLs to enable the application to connect to Oracle, so how do we not need to install Oracle on the PC if we need these DLLs which are coming from Oracle and not embedded in the .Net framework???

You need to install the Oracle client on the users machine. You will also have to configure the tnsnames.ora file to be able to connect to the database.

What Guffa means is that you do not need to install the Oracle database server on the PC. You may need to install some small redistributable parts of Oracle to allow the client to connect to the server. This should be documented in the .NET data provider you are using.

The system requirements for the .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle state that the machine must have the Oracle Client, 8i Release 3 or greater or 9i or greater if your accessing a UTF16 database, installed in order to work.

So gyes, if we wanna finish this conversation about my question, we can say as a result that we should install the Oracle client on the PC and also change the TNS names...realy I did that before but it is realy not good thing in the .Net framework that it needs some files from Oracle client to connect to Oracle DB. I think the .Net framework team developers must include those files inside the .Net framework to be more flexible and to less the need to install Oracle client each time you install your application into some machine in your company. Finally thank you very much gyes.

Why not? Besides, there are licensing issues here. Microsoft can't package parts of the Oracle client in the .NET Framework because Oracle won't let them. There's also an issue of functionality with different versions of Oracle. Like was stated, if you have a UTF16 database, you neeed to change out the underlying Oracle Client. This saves you from having to recompile your code and release a different version just to support the different encoding! How is this a bad thing????
