What are the product versioning guidelines for an ASP.NET web site storing data in the database? I want the versioning to reflect what version the database is at and what version the product is at. In my product, database version and the dlls can be different. But they must look similar or close. Any pointers please.

I am using .net 2.0 , I am trying to validate a text box control inside a webpart zone and the webpart zone is in a page which use a master page. Ii have tried giving all the possible id of the control (ID, UniqueID & ClientID) but at runtime requiredfieldvalidator not able to fiend the textbox control. What should I do to resulve the problem ?

when using master page, the id of each and every control will be prefixed with the content placeholder id of the master page except the 'div'. so check the textbox in the source after you get the page in the browser and use that name. and also note the prefix of the control, it will be same for all the controls in the same place holder.
better use js to validate the controls, this will more appropriate for real time applications, validation controls of microsoft are not that much flexible to use in real ime projects...

Thanks for your repay , of course I can use js to validate but it should also work for requiredfieldvalidation control. As I am using .clientId which return the client side id that is id in the browser. Please let me know if there any way out.

hi all,
my project depends on a popup that appears on a number of pages, the problem is that the popup appears behind the caller page which does not serve the logic we need.
i used smartnavigation property to enable the message appears without hiding the details of the page it self
if i delete smartnavigation the popup appears but the message hides the contents of the page

i am newbie to asp.net. Currently i using making web application using C# and aSP.NET(VISUAL STUDIO 2005).i am making web page to track Inquiry coming for services. I want to make inquiry id as combination of serviceid and maximum
no in the respective service so i am trying when user select respective service. i would populate 1 + of max no. of respective service.Where do i write code for same. Is it possible as after selecting service id i am generating query. Please guide me.

HI Imran,
YOu can generate the respective service id at database level.If you are using database table then simply declare a variable and then select max id and increase by 1.See the example below -
DECLARE @intMAXID INTEGER
SET NOCOUNT ON
--Get the Maximum ID from the Table and increment it by 1
SELECT @intMaxID = MAX([ContactId])+1 FROM TESTTABLE
IF @intMaxID is NULL
select @intMaxID = 1

Hello everyone,
My problem is that using the Visual Studio .NET 2005 IDE I cannot create pages with conventional methods.
For example I create an html page (coding by hand) which have a simple table with 5 rows and every row has 3-8 columns, which includes som images etc.
Everything is going fine and I can view my html in every browser as expected.
But when I copy my table code into VS the table suddenly deformates. The rows and columns are not in their place, there occurs some spaces between some of them etc.
So what is the problem ? I am a really beginner so sorry if the question seems stupid :P

VS has always hacked HTML. I wouldn't use it for doing non ASP.NET web work.

Single quotes overlap with double quotes. By the way, in my opinion this is not very readable (kinda confirmed by you not being able to spot error), I would make call to some function rather than inline mess, e.g.:
NavigateUrl='<%# MakeUrl( DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"HostID") ) %>'

If we launch visualstudio there it will show in the projects tab recent projects.
question is.....
how to clear that recent projects from there....
please any one tell me the solution.........
