The tab key moves focus to the next control. If you want it to do something else, I'd guess you need to catch KeyDown, not KeyUp.

 I am stuck on a project. I have a .txt file with 8 separate lists in it. Each list is separated by a "#" sign. I need to use StreamReader to read each individual list from the file and transfer each list into a separate combo box for user selection. I can read the file but I am having trouble passing each line of a list into the combo box. Basically I only get the last line.
My Code is as follows:
Dim SongStreamReader As IO.StreamReader
Dim Record As String
If IO.File.Exists("Country.txt") Then
SongStreamReader = IO.File.OpenText("Country.txt")
Do Until SongStreamReader.Peek() = -1

Hey all,
I was wondering if I'm even looking in the right direction on this one.
What I want to have happen, is in the client's PC, call CreateObject('ObjectOnServer.MyClass') then begin using the methods I built into the class on the server. Something like... getXML('identifiy where the xml is') and that will pass me back the XML.
Can the CreateObject access a class on the web? If so, any pointers on how would be appreciated.

This will only work if the component you want to call is registered on the clients machine as a remote-call object. You cannot specify the path to the object in the ProgID string you pass to CreateObject. Your object registration file must include this information. You'll use RegSvr32 to register the component using this file, just like any other. The registration file you use depends on the component you're registering.

use keydown... for next row... but if your talking about next cell right side using enter key then get the tab code then apply it to the enter key event...

Your best bet when starting out is to buy a book, not to read stuff online, which can be disjointed.

Hi, using VB net(2003) in a Windows Application, my question, How upon a button click allow calculation to be done if certain character are present in textbox like A to E, a to e, a dot, and finally the word cost. All other character must produce an error message. I try with ARRAY it does not seem to work. Could someone show me the way or a little tutorial would be greatly appreciate.

A regex seems the best way to go. Better yet would be to only allow valid characters to be entered. The textbox has a KeyChar event, in this event, the eventargs include a boolean flag called Handled. If you set this to true, the keypress will be ignored.

I got 2 quick questions:
1> System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("Explorer.exe", "%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\") returns folder doesn't exist because I have my documents in there, but I need to goto my documents, what should I do?
2> How do you set a global variable in .net that is accessable across multiple forms. Like Dim blah as Global?

You can't do this, you need to look up the path and pass the full path in.

The only way is to have a class that holds it, and make it public and static. Consider making it a property, at least, and consider overall if it REALLY needs to be public. If you need to share stuff between two forms, a delegate is a better way to do it.

Then how do people do things such as that, with programs? It opens their my documents, I can do %userprofile% fine, I just can't attach my documents to the end. I don't think you know much about that.
And, how would I go about doing a class in VB.NET?

The Environment.SpecialFolder enum allows you to ask for the path to folders such as the userprofile.

There is no way to write code in VB.NET outside of a class. Do you know what a class is ? If not, you need to take a step back and learn some basics.

Hey all,
I was wondering how to right an application that sits on a server and connects to clients.
I have an application that users download and right now they pull files off my server, but I need to also be able to pull files out of a MySQL database... so I need to write a server side application for the client to talk to which pulls the information from the database and pushes it down.
Any ideas how I would accomplish that?

This one sounds hard and not even !!!google!!! OMFG gave me an answer since I cannot phrase it so google understands the question.
When I click on a node in a treeview, how would I make it so that a panal or groupbox nearby will show the options for that selected node?
You are my last hope since I cant get google or MSDN to cough up any results.

The tree control has an event when the selected node is changed. You catch that, work out what node is selected, and show your contents accordingly.

I was going to suggest something like that. Is there a way the OP could data bind the selected node to the panel/groupbox?

I don't believe the nodes themselves have events, no. Having one event call different methods based onthe node selected seems nicer to me, anyhow.

I tried that but at the end (the bit thats in bold) it says the signitures are not the same
Its underlined in blue saying it
