 Hi guys, first post, i'm just getting to grips with c#.net finally, should be a pro at the end of the week, anyway, i'm pretty used to vb.net so that might be why im having trouble.
Here is the issue:
Say for example my program.cs opens a form, we will call that Main_Form, and from Main_Form, i load another form, we will call this new form Sub_Form, how can i change the height of Main_Form from the code of Sub_Form, Main_Form is already open, i dont want to do a show dialog because that only good if the forms not open right?, i just want to access the properys of the already open Main_Form from the Sub_Form, i'm not really after changeing the height to be honest, i just can't work out how to play with an already open form without making a new instance of it.
I've done this in VB.net just can't do the same in C#.net, many thanks guys.

Hello,
You need to have an reference of Main_Form in your Sub_Form.
You can do that with an property:
public Main_Form mymainform
{
get ...
set...
}
The Main_Form gives its instance to the Sub_Form property
//Main_Form code
this.sub_form.mymainform = this;
Your Sub_Form can now change Main_Form properties, like:
this.mymainform.Height = ...;
But there are much more elegant posibilities discriped in this article from Colin Angus Mackay:

Try to assign two strings which is below each other for multi-line text.

Select the project, Right Click -> Properties
On the properties page
under the resource section there is an option for Icon.
set that by browsing to the ico file.

Just want to know if anyone here has any experience with Ghost Installer?
I downloaded the free version get the files added but when I run the setup.exe I get an error at the first file it tries to copy, says that it can't install file.
My apologies if this isn't in the correct forum, wasn't quite sure where it would fit.

i want not to read the files completely, i want to read the tumbnail info.
my jpeg includes thumbnal images...
but how?

You have a smaller version of the image embedded inside the jpeg as metadata ? Reading metadata from images is supported, I've seen samples that do it.

Hi,
I have added a reference to Microsoft Excel 11 and it shows as Excel under references.
I believe I should now use "using Excel".
But Excel does not get picked up by Intellisense.
So what I have ended up doing is as follows:
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application excelApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.ApplicationClass();
I basically should be able to abreviate the above line to:
Excel.Application excelApp = new Excel.ApplicationClass();

Errm - that should be using Microsoft.Office.Interop; I think.

hi,
in my application i need to develop a program that has its visual design some how like the outlook. it is compsed of two panels. one on the left that contains the buttons and the other is empty. when each button is clicked different forms should appear in panel2. To do that, I created diffrent userControls that i designed to work like the forms i need. When clicking on any button for the first time, the user control is assigned to the panel2. but clicking on different button after that should assign another user control to the panel2; but that is not happening. i don't know why.
i used different methods to free the panel2 from the old usercontrol and assign the new one to it but nothing is working.
for example i used this method:
panel2 = new Panel();<br />
usercontrol2.Parent = panel2;<br />
if any body can help i will appreciate that

You have to work with the "Controls" property of the panel.
this.panel2.Controls.Add(usercontrol2);
//clear panel
this.panel2.Controls.Clear();

Hi all,
Yesterday i had the problem when i tried to convert a string to DateTime
I wanted to do the following:
string _appDate=_CurrentSelectedDate.Date.ToString("yyyy/MM/dd");<br />
string _fromDateTime = _appDate+" "+startTime;<br />
string _endDateTime = _appDate+" "+endTime;<br />
<br />
FromTime = Convert.ToDateTime(_fromDateTime);<br />
ToTime = Convert.ToDateTime(_endDateTime);
Now in this example the value of _appDate is "2006/11/07"
the value of _startTime is "4:00 PM"
the value of _endTime is "5:00 PM"
That makes the value of _fromDateTime = "2006/11/07 4:00 PM"
and the value of _endDateTime = "2006/11/07 5:00 PM"
I checked and it is...
Now when i try to Convert.ToDateTime for the FromDate and the ToDate
The value of FromTime is 7/11/2006
and value of ToTime is 7/11/2006
on the other computer the values are correct but not on mine...
The regional settings are the same...

I want it to work like it does on the other PC
"2006/07/11 4:00:00 PM"
It worked on my PC too but i haven't changed the regional settings, i haven't altered the code of this segment...only now to try and fix it.

This problem has a whole new twist....
Everywhere in my code where i use the Covert.ToDateTime i have the same problem... it doesn't show me the time any more...
only the date but not even in the yyyy/MM/dd format, now it is in the dd/MM/yyyy
format.
Do you think that if i built the installer and and installed it onto another computer that it would work... I mean there is nothing wrong with the code, it's just weird...
i checked the regional settings again => same as the other computer...
before i build the installer, and find a pc to install it on... do you think it would work correctly on another PC if it's acting weird on mine?

i am using a treeView control in which i want to display image against its every node. the images are placed in project directiory's \bin\release folder. now the tree is popupulated when the form is loaded i.e the statements of populating the tree are after calling
InitializeComponent();
in the constructor of new form. at first time when i come 2 this form (calling it against the NEXT button of a prevous form) then no problems occur and the images are loaded without any complication but when i go back to a previous form and come back to this form through same path and using same NEXT button then fileNotFound exeception occurs at this line
Image img = Image.FromFile("pic1.jpg");
but previously images were displayed successfully...!
i am facing same problem when i rightclick and create a contextMenu against a node. images are displayed against each optin of contextMenu successfully at first but when i click some option of contextMenu then work n then rightclick same node then the same exeception fileNotFound occurs(while populating ContextMenu) at same sort of lines...
further more if i am debugging the project then these fileNotFoundException occurs even for the first time when i populate the tree.but when i run the project no error comes for the first time and the images are loaded successfully....but only for first time..!
i canot understand where the problem lies??
