I'm guessing you have a textfile that is in some way formatted.
I won't go into specifics, but here's a general overview of a way you could solve the issue.
Greate a DataSet or DataTable (where appropriate), and generate columns within the code.
Parse the lines of the text file and then add those as rows in the datatable.
Bind a datagrid (or better, a datagridview in 2.0) using databinding to the datatable.
If you don't know any of these forms, or are confused, check the MSDN documentation, they do specifics a lot better than me.

Hi,
one way is to create a class with members that represents the columns
The member MUST have a Property to SET and GET ( the Datagrid uses this to display the data )
then you read line by line your textfile and cut the data
for example Name;Lastname;city;age ( if your text is semicolon-separated )
each object that you create you store into an Arraylist and the ArrayList you set as DataSource of the DataGrid
Thats the way i would make it ... It possible not the fastest way, but it works

Hi,
My job is to read a text file and insert all the records from that text file to a database table. I have partly done that. There is an identity field in the table named record_id. I am buliding the sql insert insertment taking values from text file and inserting records. Everything is fine as long as the number of records are less, say, 50 or 100 or 150. If the number of records goes above that all the records are not inserted. As against 766 records only 606 records are inserted. Also the autoincrement field should increment uniformly. But it is not happening so. What is the problem ? Is there a sql server problem or some logic problem.
Any suggestion is welcome

How are you checking what records has been added?

Are you catching exceptions and ignoring them, or something? I have yet to see an insert statement that fails without sending an error message.

hi,
In the inserting module i am incrementing a counter if there is a sucessfull insert. This lets me know about the number of records that are processed by the code. And in the database table, i use just " select * " statement to know exactly how many records are inserted. Before the insertion table is empty. So the number of records returned is the number of records inserted by the code.
But there is a problem somewhere, that's why it is showing me wrong no. I am first reading the whole file in a string array. This way it becomes cler about, how many records are there, and then i inserts the records one by one. But it is happening so. If an exception regarding primary key, or foreign key or any other, i am incrementing a counter for errors. But the probelm is it is not showing any error.

Yes, but what are you using to run the query? If you for example run it from the code right after inserting the records, but are using a different connection than the one used to insert while the first connection is still open, some records might not show up yet although they exist.
What does the insert query look like? Are you sure that it always results in inserting a record? If you for example select data from another table in the insert, are you sure that you always get a record from that table?

I have an application with produce document/file with a lot of textual information into it (in a TAR-GZ format).
This application is for the general public (as opposed to corporate, so I cannot assume too much on what's on my user's computer, except we require XP or later).
Now the Windows user could search file, in the FileExplore, by right clicking on a folder => search.
I wonder if there is a way to extend this search so that it search in my files as well?
I have found the IFilter interface, but apparently it is only if you have the indexing service running. I don't know which one it is, but I will bet I don't have it running, nor my user.
Any tip?

The default root is c:\
If you want to monitor the MyComputer than you need to have different Filesystem watcher for each drive...

Hi all,
I have made a parser program.The exe which i have made works fine on my PC which has both Visual Studio 2005 and .Net Framework Installed. Now if i Copy paste the exe from my PC to some other PC which does not have Visual Studio 2005 and .Net Framework Installed and i try to run this exe it gives me error ".Net framework is not installed. Kindly install it to execute the application."
Now problem is this that this application is needed to be run on hundred's of computers and its not a good thinking to install .Net framework on every computer the application needed to be run.
So Can any1 suggest any work around for this?
Some1 suggested me to use Installsheild for this but i dont know how to use this?????/

Hi
What you have suggested is to install the specific .Net Components.
Using this still i will have to instll the .Net Framework individually on every system which is a tedious task.  Is there any way that i can make my application work on any m/c which doesnt have Visual studio or .net framework installed?

You can set up your bootstrapper to first check for an installation of the .net framework, if its not installed it installs it. Then it installs your application. So from the users side they only have one setup.exe that they click on and it installs the .net framework and everything that you set the bootstrapper to install.
If your program is a very simple one (you don't have any registry entries that has to be written at installation), and your using VS2005 I suggest you use the ClickOnce Publisher, that too you can set that your program depends on the .net framework to run, then at installation it checks whether the .net framwork is currently installed or not, if not it intalls it for you.

As far as I know do you need the dotnet framework to be installed on the target machine that you wish to run your program from as your program was developed on the dotnet framework.
The Visual Studio doesn't need to be installed on you target machine only the dotnet framework.
I doubt if a workaround would be possible to not install the dotnet framework.

Hi all.
Usaually when I created a method that needs to return multiple values I used ref
ie. private method(ref string A, ref string B)
{
}
I swithed over from VS2003 to VS2005 Express, I saw that you can highlight a piece of code within a method and then using refactoring extract that to a method. But if that needs to return values I saw it uses out.
ie. private method(out string A, out string B)
{
}
I just wondered if and what the difference between the two are?
Or is the out just better coding standards?

The difference is that if you are using out, you don't have to assign a value to the variable before calling the method.
If you are using ref it means that you are sending a value into the method also, so the variable has to have a value before you call the method, or you will get a compiling error saying that you are using a variable before assigning a value to it.

Using ref / out doesn't make much difference on a local machine. If you wanted to get a dataset from a remote server for instance then using out is much more efficient as you don't have to send an object over the wire to get one back.

HI,
I have a Application(ASP.Net with c#) that should support both SQL server 200 and Oracle 9i, but when inserting records i have a problem.
This is the table script for which iam inserting data
create table foo(
bar varchar2(10) default '1' not null
);
This is the insert statement iam executing from frontend
insert into Foo (bar) values ('')
This statement is executed properly in SQL server 2000 but its not so in Oracle. I think thats due to the default and not null constraints combined in that column.
This is the error i get when i execute in oracle
ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("SCOTT"."FOO"."BAR")
Any ideas about how to solve this

is there any OCX available which can be integrated with C#, which will support DVD formated movie, mpeg, avi, wmv, mov etc movies
if not is there any alternative
atleast to run DVD formated file and MPEG4 formated file
please suggest....

The Windows Media Player control will do all of that, assuming the PC is already able to play DVDs ( which is a copyrighted codec that doesn't come with Windows, but comes with any player )
