That is ludicrous. At this point, you need a database.

Please define ludicrous. I am not an expert by any means but I feel you are way off the mark with your comment, if you could explain or better yet show an example then maybe I can better understand your position. I am recieving a flatfile and would like to change the file based on my stated criteria. If you can help, then it is appreciated.

4-7,000 records is WAY to many to store in XML, let alone plain text, even if they were all one line long, rather than 29.

You may be right but I am recieving different info so I will proceed in another direction. Thanks

I am absolutely correct. What happens if a line break gets lost in the middle of your file ? How do you recover the records below it ? How do you search this data ? I'd love to know who is telling you that a 200,000 + line text file is a valid data store ?

I am planning to Read the file using the file stream method and write out using the stream writer method. I then thought I would make an array and split on the crlf and then loop thru each Line 7 or either locate the first instance, and then loop thru every 56 lines(strNewline += (strNewline + 56))

If you're not written it yet, please don't. It is *insane* to do it this way, you can use SQL Server Express, VB.NET has wizards so you don't even need to know SQL ( although I don't recommend them generally, they offer a place to start ), and you'll get faster retrieval, individual record lookup, easy editing, and much safer data storage.

200,000-400,000 lines??? You better pray that the file is absolutely perfect! If not, you and your data are screwed! Can I ask who on this earth told you this was a good idea?

It's all good. At least you agreed with me ( not that I could see many people not agreeing on this one )

Please i need help, I am making a program for my friend and i have a problem with searching strings and numbers in listbox.
Exsample:
Listbox contains items like:
054 - Tree
056 - Box
087 - Coke
089 - Keyboard
e.t.c.
And now i have two radio butons... One is Searching by Id and other is Searching By name.
If i select radio id button i want that it searches in listbox just the number before text in item. So if i type 056 in textbox that it selects the item that starts with that number.
Or if i select the tex radio button i want that it searches for text typed in textbox. So if i type Coke in textbox that it selects item that contain that text.
Please help me solve that problem.
Thx.

Doesn't sound hard. I would have a flag based on which radio button your user selects, and then handle the listbox based on that flag. This is rather easy, so do it yourself

I have many rows in my dataGrid. The first column is a dataGridBoolColumn or a checkbox.
As I move from row to row checking the checkbox, I get the following error:
The ListManager's position must be equal to rowNum.
Parameter Name: rowNum. Do you want to correct the value?
What is this? What is the ListMAnager? Google answers aren't very clear. Please help!

Hello everyone,
I’m starting on a new project. My major task is to create vb.net application using the existing com component which is created with MFC (I think it is kind of com component created and based on the c code).
I searched a lot of materials from internet and found all the examples are kind of vb.net call the com component created with vb6 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dndotnet/html/callcomcomp.asp) and c application call the com component created with c code (http://www.codeproject.com/com/comintro.asp).
Could you tell me is that possible to create vb.net application calling the com component created with MFC (Kind of C code). Do you have an example on how to do it?
Thank you very much for your any information in advance
Jane

A COM component? Same as any other COM-based component. Add a reference to the .DLL. You'll be able to use it just like any other component. It doesn't matter what language it was written in.

I need help in coding a timer control digital clock. Anyone have any suggestions on how to start?
In the form, do I add the text box in design , then switch to code and code the rest? What code should I use? I read somewhere where I could use System.datetime.now which returns the current datetime.
HELP!
Thanks
Michael

1. Place timer on your form which will have 1 second time to execute again.
2. Use System.DateTime.now.ToString("hh:mm:ss") 'in Timer Event this will give time in required format
3. Now its on you how to display .. like place labels,Place Images or place what ever you want.
