Desktop colour depths are both at 32bits,
and the graphic card is a Radeon 9600XT 256.

I guess this is weird eh?

Sorry, don't have an idea what could cause this. Did you try different color depths for you ImageList?

Hi!

Just wanted to let you know that I just discovered one of my computers showing the same effect.
I stumbled over it while trying to modify the zone security settings.
The icons you usually see for "My Computer", "Local Intranet" and so on are not being displayed.

I don't know when the effect started or if it's there from the start. My graphics card, unlike yours, is a Nvidia 7900 GTX, so it's pretty unlikely that it's a graphics driver problem...

I have several textboxes that I wish to toggle the readonly attribute true/false by the user cliucking a button.

Can this be done in VS2005 and if so, how?

Sure. Create an event handler for the button's clck event and inside to the following for each textbox:

this.textBoxXX.ReadOnly = !this.textBoxXX.ReadOnly;

The problem is finding it. Frown | :(

As a learner, one of the biggest problems I have is using (and therefor searching for) the right terminology.

Often someone will help me out with at least a partly constructive response that may point to where I can search. Therefor, whilst in this case the response was an obvious one liner, many others have helped me to find in depth explanations by giving me the right terms to look for.

In this instance I searched high and low for what I wanted to do (and in doing so I have bookmarked many related web pages for future reference) including MSDN/MSDN2 without success. You may be interested to know that the search/how to/contents functions are excellent tools that I use frequently from the help menu on VS2005. Suspicious | :suss:

Additionally, MSDN is not always helpful when it comes to providing real world experiences and examples. Whilst I can often find highly technical Confused | :confused:

(to me anyhow) references, they often lead me to more confusion than I had in the beginning.

These message boards provide an excellent means of surrogate tutors especially to people like myself who live in remote country areas where few people care little more than if it's going to be a wet or dry season, let alone the intricacies of a computer that can change something by itself as in my original question.

I presume you well know the answer to the ULTIMATE question ie What is the meaning of life? I also presume that knowing the answer indicates that you have sufficient intelligence to understand the bigger picture.

What is the simplest way to serialize a class into a string?

i.e. something like that:

The SerializeToString method could XML-serialize the class, and the Deserialize method could deserializer it using the XmlSerializer class. The resulting XML document could be read in as a string, thus giving you a string-serialized object.

Hi,

I have a C# windows application. I am also deploying the SQL Express along with my application. When both SQL Express & my application has been installed, in a custom action, i attach my database to that SQL Express,create a login and user account. I also give SYSADMIN role to my created account. At the end, i set the authentication mode of my SQL Express to SQL Server only(i.e. Normal or Standard). Now when i try to connect to that database using my created account, it gives error message:

"Login failed for user <user name="">. The user is not associated with trusted SQL Server connection."

with Error no. 18452 Level 14 State 1. On the internet, i have searched for the solution of this problem, but they only say that you should change the authentication mode of your SQL Express from Windows to Mixed. I did that( as last step of my installer's custom action). But that did not work also.

Another important point is that, I am using standard SQL Server 2005 for accessing SQL Express. There it shows its authentication mode of SQL Express correctly as SQL Server's authentication after i have changed it in custom action. But it also does not allow to login using that user name and login. Also if i create any account using SQL Server Management Studio in SQL Express, that account is also unable to login using SQL Server's authentication.

Please help me to solve that problem. Any suggetion, any link etc...

Once you change it to mixed, it will work, so long as you're using a login that is valid for that instance of SQL Server.

We have windows service as batch application and web application as configuration GUI for batch application. I am trying to package it using VS 2003 Deployment options, not sure which project to choose.

Installing package(setup.exe) should create webforms in Virtual root and install windows service.I know how to use service installer and web setup, but not sure how to combine both.

If you're using VS2005 you can generate reports using Crystal, there's a version of Crystal Reports included with it.

You could ofcourse poke around in VS2005, this is usually the most effective way to get started.

Hi,

I have created a structure as follows

public struct symbol
{
char szKeyword;
int dflt;
bool fPassDflt;
int idx;
}
symbol SYM;

I would like to create an array of the structure and write the variables in. I have found a sample in the help for a normal array as follows:

int[,] myArray = new int[,] {{1,2}, {3,4}, {5,6}, {7,8}};

What I want to do is pass the values of the structure but I can't get this to work. Any suggestions?

Make a constructor in the struct.

I have given the member variables some more descriptive names, but as I couldn't figure your variable names out, I may be way off what you intended. Wink | ;)

I also made the member variables private and made read-only properties for them, so that the structure is immutable.

public struct Symbol {

   private char keyword;
   private int defibrilator;
   private bool passDefibrilator;
   private int index;

   public symbol( char keyword, int defibrilator, bool passDefibrilator, int index) {
      this.keyword = keyword;

As you have a constructor, you can easily create an array of structures:
