thanx, but what's the reasons to disactivate the control.
Is it for security reasons?

Microsoft lost a lawsuit regarding the embedding of content. This was its initial attempt at a work around. Rumor has it that will change in IE7 (surprise...surprise)

If you have 3 columns in one table, and place in the first TD 100px, in tha last 200px and in the middle TD one asterisk "*", the middle column enlarge to fit the table width.
I can use this asterisk (*) in css? The asterisk is reserved in css, then what we can use?

I may be wrong here, but do you need this asterisk at all. If you have two columns of fixed width and a set width on the table, then surely the middle column will expand to the table width anyway...
|
|
|
|
|
That depends on the content of the table cells, and in what browser the page is shown.
The size that you specify for a cell is the minimum size, if the browser feels that the cell should be bigger, it will be.
Normally the size of the cells are determined by the size of their content. There is nothing specific in the html standard on how the browser should calculate the sizes, so different browsers will come to different conclusions on how large the cells should be.

Did you try and use width:auto?? (I didn't test this)

You are right in saying that * is reserved, but not for autosizing. It used to select all elements in the current DOM.
E.g. div * { } will apply styling to all descendant (i.e. children of children, etc) elements of div elements

Hi there i need somebody's help right here.. this is my first time in this forum. Actually this is my first day in this class n my lecturer gave me a question tht i dont know wht is tht.This time i really need u guys there to help me out.My question will be : i am experiencing problems with getting Front Page 98’s hover buttons to function.Applet codes of the web page is as follow:
applet code="fphover.class" codebase="./" width="120" height="24">
param name="color" value="#000080">

I am sorry, but that question is already burned. The question has already been cross posted twice using completely new user accounts, and voted down for posting in completely wrong boards. Even if you are not the same person, you will have a hard time convincing anybody about it.
This post will probably also be voted down, due to:
:: Writing a completely useless subject.
:: Asking for a reply by mail instead of in the forum.
:: Posting a school assignment without making a single effort towards solving it.
:: Not posting the complete assignment question, thus trying to trick people into doing the assignment without knowing it.

It appears to be a whole school class. I got this email from "aaaa aaaa":
"I'm sorry but i'm not try to trick you....this is my lecturer suggestion.....i'm a new student in computer science and i also don't know what kind of question or code in this problem.....This problem,my lecturer give me in my firstclass of web programming and she want we all to post this problem in the forum and see what they all(people in forum) respond with this problem.....
Can you help me to respond with this problem????....At least you give me only a method for solve this problem....
I give you my problem statement to you.....plzzzz...."
To which I replied:
"Hello.
I think that you should tell your teacher that the experiment failed, as you didn't have enough knowledge about how the forums work to make them work for you, and you didn't take the time to famililarize yourself with them.
A group of people just blurting out the same question in random forums was doomed do fail, especially as several of you posted in the same forum, and also because it was so evident that it was an assignment, but the complete assignment wasn't revealed in the posts.
Your teacher should have just given you the non-working code and a verbal description of the problem, so that you would have to write the question yourself, instead of just copy and paste something that didn't even sound like a question in a forum.
Also you should have been given the instruction to find out a little about how the forum works and how to post a question, before rushing in and making every beginners mistake there is.

Göran Andersson"

If you post a school assigment in the forum and try to make it look like a genuine question, wouldn't it be smart to change the text so that it isn't obvious that it is an assignment?

Use css instead of those applets. It's more accessible and will be lighter and easier to maintain.
Example:
a:hover{color:red;padding:4px;border:1px solid #CCC;background-color:#000;}

To hide the div:
document.getElementById('hideshow').style.display = 'none';
To show the div:
document.getElementById('hideshow').style.display = 'block';

Why won't you tell what the real assignment is?
The assignment is not to solve the problem, but to explain methods to solve it.
It's not very nice to try to trick people into doing your assignments.

I just found out that this is a school asignment. It's not nice to try to trick people into doing your assignments for you. Unless you come clean about this I don't think that you will get any help at all.

Use "Ignore HTML" when you post your code. If we can't see the code, it's pretty hard to help you with it...
An please try to write a useful subject.
