Hi, on NTFS file system, administrator would be able to set the permission for the specific user or group. The permission is set in Access Control List (ACL) and store in Access Control Entry (ACE). What I want to know is: Where does Access Control Entry is stored? Is it a file or not?

No, it's not a file. It's parts of the files directory entry in the filesystem.

Thank you for your explaination. I ask this question because I want to build my own programming application which read about the permission which apply for the specific user or group. So that is the reason that I ask this question.

Thank you very much for your information. Currently I use vb.net 2003 and .net framework 1.1. Beside of using .net framewor 2.0. Are there any other solution that I could do it?

Liek I said, there's nothing native built into the .NET Framework 1.x. You'll have to use a 3rd party library or write one yourself. Be warned! In the case of object security, this is NOT easy. You'll be P/Invoking LOTS of Win32 functions to death! You'll have to rewrite all the structures involved and they get pretty complex.
You're best bet is to search the articles for "ACL" or "ACE" or Google for ".NET NTFS Security".

There isn't one!!! Alot of what needs to be done is so dependant on your environment, it's impossible to write one!
The Resource Kit gives you all the tools to do your own research and development into building your own RIS implementation. There is no hard-and-fast "this is what you do"! You have to develop your own solution based on your own requirements and environment.

i was wondering how to detect if a file is opened. i need a way to use the eventhandlers in windows which detect the opening of a video file in order to retrieve the path to that file and the process ID of the program that's running it
anything at all even if it's just something that you heard from someone or a vague recollection, i'd appreciate it if you could mention it.

Years ago when I did my first W2K roll out using RIS on a W2K server I had set the 'client computer naming format' to use the LAST 4 digits of the clients MAC address, plus some static text, "STATIC-NNNN". Since then I've changed it a number of times for different reasons. Now I am trying to set it back to what it was but for the life of me cannot figure out how to do it. Everything I read explains how to use the FIRST N number of digits, "STATIC-%4MAC", but I can find no mention of how to use the LAST n number of digits.
I have 30+ clients here, all named using the last digits of their MAC address. I know they were rolled out via RIS and they they were not pre-staged, so I know this worked at some point... Am I dreaming here or can someone explain how to do this?

Hi, does anyone know that bluetooth signal and wireless network signal could communicate with each other or not? For example, I have a wireless router which is used to connected and share an internet to the client. I have one laptop but i don't have a wirless network card. But I have USB bluetooth and correctly install its driver. Is it possible that my laptop could use usb bluetooth to connect to wireless router to access an internet?

This will only work if your wireless router had a BlueTooth interface in it. BlueTooth doesn't work with the normal 802.11anything wireless protocols.
